    multiple short to ground faults, need help! and a wiring diagram

    A few days ago I was driving and smelled some electrical burning and a CEL and EPC light popped up. When I got to my destination I popped the hood to notice some white magic smoke coming from the drivers side engine bay that eventually went away. The car drives fine, but I've not really gotten on it since this happened. I finally got a chance to pull codes and it looks like a common ground wire may have fried. Does anyone have any insight to this, and maybe a wiring diagram for where all of these modules wire into the harness? I've done some slight poking around and I can't clearly see any spots that have been burned and melted. Thanks in advance!

    At this point I half suspect a fried relay. Here’s a relay legend I finally found online (why is it so difficult?!), so, which relay would you suspect would control those modules listed above with errors?

    I would suspect a problem with the engine managment unit or the relay (E) . A loose connection can also trigger those codes but that should not cause a burnt smell.. Try sniffing around the relay box and the engine managment unit. There should still be a burnt smell.

    Update. I put a new fuse into the ECM module control that had blown. Right away smoke starting coming from somewhere under the manifold and then disappeared before I could track it down. It didn’t blow the ECM control fuse again so I was able to clear all codes and I now have no warning lights. I romped on it a little and scanned codes again, only code now is the boost control module. Thats likely what smoked. So I at least have some direction now.

    Bumping this. Does anyone know where the N249 is in our car? From what I gather the N249 is indeed the diverter valve on our cars, but a sensor must live somewhere to control it, I suspect under the intake manifold where the smoke was coming from. Here’s the current error I’m getting:

    What fuse did you replace and do you have the wiring diagrams?

    I replaced one of the fuses in the ECU compartment. I think I actually had to pull the whole ECU out to access them. Turned out what was smoking was my afterrun coolant pump connector melting and shorting out, blowing the fuse and giving me codes for every other sensor that runs through it. There’s an open TSB for it, not sure if you’ve had yours looked at yet.

    I’ll try to pull up a diagram

    edit: I replaced either fuse 15 or 16 on the ST1 fuse block.

    The afterrun coolant pump V51 is fuse 7 in ST1. The coolant pump V50 is fuse 16. Both fuses power a variety of ECU managed devices.
    Prior to Nov 2011, you won't see the V51 pump on fuse 7, since the pump was not directly connected. Instead, you'll see the J496 aux engine coolant pump relay, as that is what supplied power to the V51.

    umm did you guys see the mount solenoid shorted to ground ??? I think that's the wire that comes from the drivers motor mount isn't it ? did you check that ?

    but if the fuse blows immediately thats actually a good sign.

    remove fuse ... check to see which is hot side using a meter...
    on the NON HOT side hook the meter up for resistance and put on non hot side and ground. You will have zero or very little resistance. ( that's why it is blowing the fuse. )
    start disconnecting the wiring harness on that circuit until the resistance jumps up , you have found your short.
