I'm looking to get into this. I got my spare ECU and rack set up.

I'm trying to read ECUs and write. Basic stuff. Mostly trying to learn

Which one would be the most reliable Chinese knockoff you think?

*Edit: Misspelled Galletto. It's actually Galletto V54*

I’ve been working w BDM100, but I’m having a computer built to continue. I’m going to use windows XP as most of the info I’ve found says it’s easier to work from the older software.

I’d suggest building a bench flasher from an old Ecu harness. The most issues I’ve had is getting the 100% connection on the plastic frame most of the BDM kits provide.

I could never get my bdm100 to connect successfully. Would be interested to see if anything has changed or if ppl are successful with it.

I got the BDM100 in the mail today and I tried to set it up and I couldn't make it work. I consider myself to be computer literate.

I tried running it on Windows XP VM install and the box does get recognized and even flips the power relay but it's still unable to read the ECM. It just freezes when I turn on the 12v power. And it eventually errors out saying it's an unrecognised ECU. I tried to also update the firmware on it as well. No success.

I've been reading online that the V54 is the best bet of you want to get a Chinese one and the Kess V2 and Dimsport are the best if you want to go legit.

I'm shooting offers on eBay right now for a V54.

Have you started your computer build yet? Check out the new Ryzen APUs. Lots of performance for not alot of money for a CPU.

I’m going w a complete older setup w XP. Virtual box was a fail, as well as a few other virtual drive types of software. Something to do with the newer USB recognition types of data. From what I’ve read was that running off an older complete XP that does the software recognition when plugged in was the easiest way to get it to fully read and load the correct data for the bdm100 software. I used to do quite a bit of programming myself. But that was many moons ago. Mine was doing the same a few odd things you can try is to try and depress the board while it’s starting to see the bdm box, I had quite a lot of reads done doing this, other things to try is to remove your virtual box and re load it, cycle the pc off after removing them restart after reloading the virtual ware. I’ve also noticed a shorter USB cable to work better then the one provided. That or take the cable and make a number of loops in it to shorten it tape it like that and see if it works. I’ve heard others adding a small bulb to the 12V on the bdm frame pin board which seems to help when it powers up to add a bit more resistance.
