    Rubber vs Plastic CV Boot.

My 2001 A4 1.8T Quatro came with rubber cv boots. I just got a part from the dealer (4A0-498-203-C front outer boot) and it is made of plastic. Does anyone have an opinion on rubber vs plastic?

    Thanks.

Must be a soft plastic that changes shape easily.

I would have thought rubber was better but generally from the dealer is best, right?

Pretty much every manufacturer switched to plastic boots. They last longer but are more of a pain to install. Just get a quality pair of crimping pliers because they use steel crimp rings instead of aluminum, and they require a whoole lot more force.

Those clamps are b**tch to crimp. No breaker bar is enough for the crimp plier. I ended up using the help of a spring compressor.

Stupid hard to clamp those ******s. Ruined my cv cause it wasn’t tight enough. Lol. If it’s clicking best to not continue running it and drifting for a week. Running a hose clamp since I refilled it. Clicks pretty good in turns now.
