    Exhaust sounds through interior speakers?

    Hi all,

I've searched here on the forum and on Google... I can't find anything that says one way or the other if the S5 Sportback has that little 'feature' where they pump some exhaust sounds in through the interior speakers? I know Audi has done it on some models in the past, but I don't know if it's even still a thing... Thanks for the input, and sorry if it's already been gone over somewhere else...

I thought I read somewhere that it does it through the front glass actually. It can be turned off with something like obdeleven afaik I've read.

So to clear this up for future members asking the same question:

The system on the S5 uses both the valves exhausts which generates some of the sound, and something called a 'Structure Borne Sound Actuator' which is a resonator that is fitted on the engine bulkhead. It does NOT rely on any part of the MMI/Audio system.

The bulkhead based unit generates the engine vibration type noise and the exhaust the exhaust noise.

You can easily switch off the soundaktor via OBD11 and, to my ears, it sounds an awful lot better.

Also seems to get rid of the 2k rpm drone when cruising.

It seems like you can control the engine sound in the 'Drive Select' option. In 'Dynamic' Driving mode, it seems like you can reduce the engine 'sound', when i drive with the window down and rev the engine , i definitely do not hear anything outside, the sound seems to be coming from the front speakers...

Sound is not coming through speakers. On b9 S cars no artificial sounds. On b 8' there is a device on fire wall that sends sound via vibration. Is can be regulated a bit through Midi. Or coded out wi h coding unit. Or you can pull fuse 5 in first bank of fuses on drivers side panel. In either series no sound through audio system.

Same device on firewall in B9 cars. Can be coded out using OBD11.

Referred to as SoundAktor I believe.

How exactly do you go about turning of this sound actuator through the OBD11? The 2K drone @ cruising is very apparent in our B9 S4!

Thanks for the help and clearing this up. Seems to be a lot of confusion on the subject --

Obd11 shows it as a separate module.....

A9 Actuator for Structure Borne Sound

Then go into adaptation and select Volume of structure borne noise actuator.

Set to zero then press and hold green tick.
