Audi Smartphone Interface activated on a retrofitted MMI MIB 2 unit finally possible

Good evening,

I would like to inform the comunity of Audi A6 C7 owners that today I was the beneficiary of an activation of Audi Smartphone Interface on a MMI MIB 2 unit, previously reteofitted from RMC, on a MY 2015 facelift car. From what I saw with my own eyes, there is a specialist/team that can activate Audi Smartphone Interface (CarPlay/ Android Auto) on ANY MIB HIGH unit, regardless the hardware version or factory fitted or not. I was doing reaserch for more than a year now, and now I found the right specialist/team to do it. Depending on some details, it can be done even remotely. I will come back with pictures.

My usb ports were already retrofitted corectly from standard AMI to usb AMI. If you have usb AMI factory fitted with a phone sign on one of the plugs, then it is ok. The rest was firmware, software and coding in my case. For factory fitted units should be more straight forward.

So "team" is from Sweden, Polish or Bulgaria. While ago Sweds offered online solution also, but price was silly.

Will the MMI head unit need to be replaced/upgraded somehow?

I started my research for more than one year now, as soon as Audi officialy mounted Carplay on A6 in 2016/2017. For models after 2017, you just need to go to a dealer. Official price is around 300€. For models between 2015-2017 (facelift models, either with factory fitted Navigation High with touch = MIB unit or retrofitted from non navi to Navigation High with touch) there is this activation solution. The activation might be done remotely, depending on some specifications of your unit. The pricing level is at the same range with the official dealer price, so it really is the right choice. You can also choose to get some extra gadgets, online services, so the best thing to do is to contact directly the specialist.

It works only if you change your existing MMI 3G unit with a MMI MIB unit. That means head unit, screen, touch console and some accessories. There is a thread on audizine called Tegra 3 MMI upgrade in pre facelift A6 withh all info.

I had a Chinese company try it. They remotely logged in and failed. Never got back to me and I lost my money. Referred through RSNAV.

They're working through a couple of things, and getting ready to ship the next gen hardware at end of month, I believe. Audio and connection issues have been reported. Connection stuff mainly around which cables you're using: for most, seems the Amazon USB cable is great, for iPhone X - apparently the cable that comes with it is the most fool proof.

Currently looking to get my maps updated on my 2014 A6... however if I can get Android Car Play updated this may be the way to go...

So if you have MIB2 non nav, aka MMI Radio plus can this be done to get to audi smartphone (aka CarPlay) mine is a 2018 and can't seem to find the solution. i am in latin america and because audi nav package has no maps for here the dealer doesnt bring cars with Nav.

Hello everybody,
I had a period with limitted access to our discussions and I am now triing to give some updates: I found the website of the company who is doing this retrofits for the Audi Smartphone Interface, you can find the contact details and info there http://audi-mib.bg. On the other side, in order to be able to have this retrofit done remotely, you need to have some auxiliary gear. Mine was done in a service in Bucharest where this gear was available. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what you need to have it done remotely. Another option is to send the unit. Besides this compay, I remember I found a coupple more, one in Sweden and the othe one in Belgium. I believe you can google them. The most serious one seemed to me the one I gave the website and actualy did my retrofit. One more info, any car with MIB built after 2017, can do the retrofit at any Audi dealer, with pretty much the same price. Any other car with MIB (face lift cars for A6 4G, can do the retrofit witthis company or probably other as well). Any pre facelift cars need MIB hardware retrofit in order to work. I hope I helped the comunity, it took me 2 years since I start searching for a solution untill I found it and I hope this info will help for the ones who didn't do the retrofit yet.
