It won't be. Nor will it be an RS4 Avant. Audi likes to sell cars, and in America, no one buys either of those types of cars. So going through the incredibly expensive process to get both those cars U.S. legal simply isn't worth it for Audi as they won't sell enough of them. Most likely the unnamed car will be something that will A) have big sales potential and B) compete in a market where they currently have no offering. The two most likely candidates for that are
- RSQ5
This has been rumored for years, but the previous gen was a bit too close to the end of it's life cycle when those rumors started churning the most. The Q5 line is the biggest seller for Audi and an RS model would finally give them a vehicle to compete with the XMs, AMGs, F-Types of the world. I think this is the most likely next RS offering in America. Not sure if QC issues with the new Mexico factory would prevent this from happening...or if an RS model would even be built in said Mexico factory or be built in Germany. Who knows.
- RS4 Sedan
Doesn't exist yet, but it easily could and would give a competitor to the M3 and C-AMGs of the world that hasn't existed for a decade. The A4 line is I think the 3rd biggest seller for Audi behind the Q5 and A3, so it also makes sense from a sales stand point.
