I should point out - without the powertrak insert, the haldex is a complete liability on track. Completely unpredictable and will change its mind on the power split mid-corner. With the insert the haldex immediately goes to 50:50 F:R split as soon as it detects any slip.

A step up from that would be a haldex controller - which gives full control over the split. I may look into that down the line.

I take it you mean the Brands GP layout? I’ve only done the Indy layout which is fun but so short!

I’ve always been curious about the powertrak insert. It seems like a economical upgrade over the hpa controller and even the UM Haldex flashes available currently.

How long have you been running the insert and have you found any adverse effects of its use? Any binding in slow turns or premature Haldex wear?

Also, do you notice more front tire wear with the increase camber ? I know many people run as much camber as possible in the front in exchange for grip as well as the removal of the front sway bar, have you done this as well?

So I’ve had the insert less than a year, and the car only gets used for trackdays (including the journey to and from, usually 4-5hr roundtrip).

I’ve noticed no ill effects (with the caveat noted above - the car doesn’t get used a lot), and haven’t read about others having issues with the powertrak either. The biggest issue was getting it fitted! My usual specialist tried to swap the insert with the controller in situ and couldn’t manage it - so I ended up buying a second hand controller, fitting the powertrak to that, and then swapping the whole controller.

On the positive side - it makes a huge difference in the wet. You can feel it kick in when you apply power out of a corner, and help get the power down.

I can imagine that the HPA would be even better and I may still look at other options apart from the powertrak in future.

My front camber is only -2.5; not that extreme, and I would’ve liked it to be closer to -3.5! Probably need to lower the ride height. Again, given the limited use of the car - I’ve not noticed any adverse tyre wear.

I still have the OEM front anti-roll bar, and a R32 rear (slightly thicker than OEM). My coilovers probably aren’t suitable for removing the front ARB (spring rates not high enough). The compromise I chose was to not go for a really hard suspension setup, as I have to drive the car to and from the track, and I have a few hours driving to do on those journeys. I’m too much of a wuss! I even kept the climate control!

Nice driving too! Love the rain. Makes you feel like Superman
My old car is set up very similar to yours except my steering wheel is on the left. here’s a lap of Road Atlanta a few years ( and one engine) back.

    Thanks!

Standard track etiquette here in the UK. Not everyone does it, but they should - helps prevent any hairy situations. We’re not racing afterall - all just having fun at our own pace

I think that is awesome. Here in the States with HPDE, we usually run 3 levels of skill: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The 1st two require the driver being overtaken, to hand signal what side they want to be passed on. So we always run with windows down, rain or shine, so we can give hand gestures. Advanced usually does NOT have to signal permission to pass/overtake. Seems a bit primitive compared to your method. LOL.

That sounds, er, insane... ! So a beginner track driver, as well as learning the track, braking points, cornering technique etc, has to take a hand off the wheel and stick it out of the window???

The way it works here is there’s generally mixed abilities on track, but everyone has to go to the track briefing (or you’re not allowed on track), and plays by the same rules. You are only allowed to pass on straights, and on either the left or right depending on the track (e.g. at Donington only allowed to overtake on the left). No overtaking in braking zones. If you’re blocking someone getting past, you’ll get a blue flag or lights at first, but then pulled off the track if you continue. Black flag for dangerous overtaking.

This system seems to work well IMO.

Yes. Pretty much summed up well in your post. We too have mixed skill, even in each group. We also have track meeting at 8AM for everyone and review rules, passing zones and flags. Advanced can pass anywhere on the track, everyone else has passing areas, always on the straights, but not all straights. The car overtaking, in all situations, must come "off-line", so that means the car being overtaken, points them left or right, but off-line.

I'll throw my wet TT track day vid in as well. Some clubs (Audi Club Golden Gate in this instance) on the Left Coast will allow windows up when the rain gets heavy enough. Turn signals are used to indicate "OK to Pass". All passes were made to left in pre-determined zones, the car doing the passing leaves line. Please disregard side ways action through T10; trail braking in rain will introduce ABS and create fun.

    Cheers!
