RS5 Burble Tune VIDEO

Hey guys,

I recently contacted Velocity Automotive Performance (VELOCITYAP) located in British Columbia, Canada to work with me to create a custom STAGE 1 PERFORMANCE + burble/crackle tune for my Audi RS5. I've always loved how the new Audis, Huracan and Jaguar Ftype etc had this feature from factory! I had to try it out also :)

VelocityAP is well known in the Audi R8/Lamborghini exhaust tuning world so I knew they were the right choice! They also have a full exhaust system for the RS5.

After sending the payment I received their "VTECH" programming tool tablet in 1 day. Their communication was fantastic throughout the process. This tablet allows me to store my stock ECU ORIGINAL file, along with 5 other different tuning MAPS from VelocityAP with which I can flash my ECU back to original at anytime using the OBD2 Port. No ECU removal was needed!!

I worked directly with their lead software engineer Chris (a great guy to work with and VERY knowledgable!) and he discovered that the RS5 MED17.1.1 ECU Like the RS7 etc Has tables that are initially disabled stock to control this "burble" feature for optimum safety and performance. Meaning that CAT cooling/heating can all be controlled and kept within stock limits to my understanding! This is exactly what cars with burble function from factory have! This is a very important because aspect as many tuners do NOT go through all this programming which can cause problems in the future. VelocityAP was very thorough with their programming to ensure 100% Engine health. Chris can expand on this topic more.

I just installed the tune today and can confirm it sounds amazing with the RS5 V8 just like I had hoped! It reminds me of a jaguar FTYPE SVR! I do not currently have a full exhaust setup, just awe non resonated downpipes. Meaning that with a full system this will sound even better.

Along with the burbles, the tune also improves throttle response, and definitely adds some power also!! but that was not my objective.

Following! This sounds sooo good, I can only imagine what it would sound like with my exhaust! Are the burbles less aggressive in comfort mode? I would like to make sure they "police" mode switch would still be super effective. IE, when I close the valves on my exhaust so it sounds stock.

Yes in comfort mode you won't hear them :D

It's weird, if I'm in manual mode and let the car rev up a bit and shift "slowly", as in not with my foot burying the pedal but in a close to neutral position, it burbles in between shifts. Less so on the quicker shifts as there's no time obviously. Yours sounds far more aggressive in the burble dept., like the gas is smacking the hot converter in anger.

Their Instagram page is drool worthy, particularly the Aston Martin headers. I don't think they can be persuaded to do a set for our cars unfortunately (I asked). They seem to have mad skills in that dept. so it's a shame.

Yes I definitely plan to dyno it soon. I can flash back to stock easily to show before and after.

Hopefully we could see some before/after dyno results that would back up the improvements promised. Not saying that their claims are false, but I am amazed that this additional performance has not been "discovered" until just now.

I'll be the first to ask Chris a technical question. Are the temp adjustment tables big enough to accommodate cars in hot climates with your tune? I'll regularly see 106 degrees Fahrenheit for weeks on end. It's fun, really. I know James is in Dubai and I KNOW he sees even hotter temps. Any hot weather testing done with the tune?

Also, if we log and provide data, is there additional room for fine tuning on your end or is it an off the shelf and done tune?

It’s winter here so we get down to a chilly 55F in the evenings. The difference in driving the car in winter from the summer months feels like a turbo has been fitted. But that’s what a 75F inlet air temperature shift does.

Thank You, I've personally been with the Audizone community for sometime now under my own account, as many it's always been my first "go-to" for Audi info!

Unfortunately we've not done any dyno testing on any of the VAG brands, so nothing on the RS5 nor S5 as of "yet". We're new to the VAG crowd but not new to the tuning field nor the Bosch engine management systems. Simos is something slightly different but it's more common to find info on, doesn't worry me. Also owning a Simos vehicle to test on voids the needs to find test vehicles.

RS5: We do know a local tracked RS5 fitted with our entire exhaust (DP's to bumper, same car in our promo vid on track with exhaust), we'll be grabbing this car in the spring/summer months to get all the data for you guys(we love data and always post it publicly for viewing, no smokes and mirrors). As mentioned the car is already fitted with our downpipes and our exhaust so we won't be able to do complete stock VS. mod tune run, but will have no issue getting a base run with stock tune and exhaust VS. exhaust with mod tune. The quoted BHP gains on our website for the RS5 are an estimated gain to what we accomplished with our tune in an R8 on dyno with the 4.2L FSI. Mind you that's an MED9 and not MED17 like the RS5 but it's a good rough number to quote for the RS5 4.2L with file..if not with just file but possibly with DP's+Tune. Again it's just a rough estimate and it's also marked on the website, we're not trying to hide fake results. Once we get an on paper number with proof for the RS5, it'll be posted ASAP!!

S5: We'll have to find a 4.2L S5 B8/8T locally but I do own a S4 B8, so at the least I will be able to get some numbers for the 3.0L S5 B8.5/8.5T crowd. I've not tuned my car being I simply had no time and it was not in our focused market to test around with..but that's becoming a different story. We've had some clients inquire on the 3.0L tunes so when I get some time I'll write up a mod file for my S4 and tweak as needed to suit everyone's needs then get it on the dyno!
