    Carista, is it worth it?

I've seen a few posts where people use this bluetooth dongle thing for recording 0-60 and stuff like that. Apparently you can do some customizing and service stuff as well? Is the dongle itself worth it and then use a different app? What is the best app to use with it? The Carista app apparently has a subscription fee. I know its no replacement for a vagcom, but for connecting to your phone to get info, how well does it work for you guys? I think lots of people use OBD2 Fusion?

I have OBDeleven and I'm very happy with it. As you stated most of this Bluetooth dongles are no substitute to VAG Com but at least with OBDEleven there's a lot that can be done.

I have it and like it alot, you can do some quick customizations such as DRL intensity etc while being outside the car and seeing instantly the result of what you changed. It is also very useful for diagnostic when you're not at home

Do you have the OBDeleven dongle as well? Or carista? How does the app work with the different levels of what you can do?

Yes, OBD11 has a proprietary dongle but Carista's is not proprietary (I believe).

I have Carista dongle and like it a lot. It's works on Iphone and Android. It's is compatible with other app such as Dash, Dashcommand, OBD Fusion, OBD Car Doctor,OBD Auto Doctor,Trackaddit, Torque...etc. Right now Amazon.ca is half price compare to Amazon.com. So it now or never!

Buy a VCDS/VAGCOM and a generic $20 bluetooth OBD adapter and the $5 Torque app. No subscription services, all the bluetooth data logging and speed/time measuring and gauge displays, and full functionality with VCDS when you get home. The subscription business model made me not even consider Carista.

Personally i think carista is worth it, other alternatives are full VCDS which costs easily over $400 at the time for me (shipping and US-CDN)

I was able to sign up for Carista when it was a $20 lifetime subscription, when they were just starting out. So glad i did it before their new business model changed.

We are in the same boat, lifetime free. Very happy that I encourage this company at the early stage. Even now the weekly subscription on the go, it's decent price. Why who you buy a generic dongle at 20$ that either support IOS or Android when you can buy Carista dongle for 26$ and that support both platform? You can still buy the 5$ Torque app, if you don't wish to pay Carista after their free month trial.

I currently have a full Vag-com cable, but recently picked up a Carista dongle from a forum member, to try out when the weather warms up. I'm just curious, can you access the hidden menu through the Carista app?

Carista was totally worth it for me at the time, but I got it when it was a one time fee. I used to do some like customizing, reset the service intervals, release parking brake, read/clear engine codes, etc. I still want a full vagcom, and I'm not sure it's worth it to pay a subscription constantly. I don't use it often enough for that.
