Limeypride and I had the opportunity to put our cars through their paces on the same dyno on the same day for comparison purposes.
The cars and their relevant mods:
1) 2016 S6, APR Stage 3 (93 file), with RS7 turbos, APR downpipes, AMS intercooler, AWE S-flo intake, MRC carbon fiber turbo inlets, and AWE touring exhaust
2) 2017 RS7 Performance, APR Stage 2 tune (93 file and later the 100 file), with Akropovic exhaust (OEM as part of the titanium package) and AWE S-flo intake
The conditions: Ambient pressure 1012hpa (approx. at sea level), ambient temp 12C/54F
The dyno: Dynojet AWD, 424XLC2, Drift-Office, Auburn, WA
The S6:
Several 4th gear pulls were performed, with the best 2 runs as follows:

Relevant logging data from the last 4th gear pull (with whp of 620 and torque of 605 ft-lbs):

Now for limeypride’s RS7!

Limeypride performed dyno runs in 4th and 5th gear on a 93 file as well as a final 5th gear run on the 100 file. His best runs of each in that order were as follows:

The log data for limeypride’s 4th gear pull (93 file) are graphed here:

The log data for limeypride’s 5th gear pull (100 file):

Observations:
First, this is obviously dyno data, and not time slips, so take them for what they’re worth—we had a lot of fun doing it and found the results make for interesting discussion. At the very least, there is comparative value between the 2 cars, since the runs were done on the same dyno at approximately the same time and under the exact same conditions.
As expected, the RS7 performed exceptionally! The APR Stage 2 tune even with stock downpipes did not disappoint, demonstrating 625whp and 713ft-lbs of torque during its best 4th gear pull (93 file), 621whp and 739ft-Ibs of torque for its best 5th gear pull (93 file) and 640whp and 743ft-lbs of torque during its final 5th gear pull (100 file)!
Of note, the APR tunes for both cars delivered actual boost quite close to the requested boost. Impressively, the RS7 both requested and delivered a boost of 29psi on each of its runs. The S6, with its Stage 3 93 file, both requested and delivered an actual boost of 23psi during its runs, despite the presence of the same exact RS7 turbos. This may potentially be a reflection of a conservative APR Stage 3 tune.
Also of note, during the 4th gear pulls and 93 files, the S6 delivered 620whp, nearly mirroring the whp of the RS7. Where the RS7 really shone was in its torque production: 739ft-lbs in 5th gear (93 file) and 743ft-lbs in 5th gear (100 file)!
As for temps, coolant temp hovered around 100C for both cars at the end of all runs, with the oil temp slightly lower for the S6 at the end of the runs at 92C.
For Intake Air Temps, the highest seen by the S6 was 42C, from a starting temp of 34.5C(on the final of 5 4th gear runs). In contrast, the RS7 had a starting intake air temp of 44C, with a high of 58.5C during the last 4th gear run.
Takeaways:
The RS7 Performance is clearly a beast, and the simple edition of an ECU tune shows excellent power and torque.
For each car, the APR tunes both requested and delivered boost with a very minimal to no delta between the 2 variables.
A highly modified S6 with Stage 3 software can provide significant gains in horsepower over stock, and in this instance demonstrated horsepower close to the RS7 on 93file, but the torque of the RS7 remains much higher than the S6.
Caveats: per common lore, dyno runs are typically taken using the gear with a 1:1 ratio. For the RS7, that’s 6th gear. We were advised to use a lower gear since the run-time of a 6th gear pull (being much longer) might cause the results to suffer from heat soak.
Also, the fuel for the S6 was WA 92 octane (12 gallons) mixed with 3 gallons of e85. For the RS7, all runs were done using 4 gallons of WA 92 octane with 32 oz of a race concentrate additive; this one:

Finally, a shot of the Pacific NorthWest Mythos Black Audi Club: (jsilas was with us today). All 3 of us are stupid enough to own black cars in the land of perpetual rain! We hope to get a track day in sometime in the next 6 months once we see the sun again…
Many thanks to limeypride and jsilas for their input and pics during this process!
