Does anyone know if there is a DIY to removing the carpet? Seats obviously need to come out, as does the center console (how does that come out). Assuming with the seats and console removed, the only other thing to remove is the plastic kick panels and trim that run along the sides?

Correct. You will need triple squares for both the seats and I believe the console. I did a full swap on my car. The tools for the console are relatively basic. Couple hex bolts, torx, and some screwdrivers. I'll see if I can find the guide I used

How difficult was to do the swap? And where did you get new carpet?

For a kid (I was 19 at the time) with not mechanical experience, it did not take that long. There's lots of guides. The hardest parts were the dashboard, the rear seats, and surprisingly the rear deck. As far as I know, there is still no guide for the rear seats or dashboard.

I bought an enormous amount of stuff in one kit from eBay that some dude pulled out of his B7. He essentially scammed me though because he didn't include a lot of the things that the ad said he did and I didn't get around to analyzing the kit until a few months later (I was in college, kit was at home). The rest of the parts I needed came from a local Audi shop that had a boneyard. The owner WAS a cool guy that let me go up and pull the parts I needed bring them down and pay whatever for them.

I'm not sure what your interior color is but if it's Platinum Grey I have carpet in pretty good condition. Was pulled from my car at ~50k.

Oh but in general, the carpet is not glued down anywhere. You will need to remove the rear seat bottom as well as the front seats, and the center console.

    EDIT:
This is a guide for a B6 center console removal but interior wise B6≈B7. The consoles are slightly different but I believe they mount the same.

Thanks, tan interior so no need for new carpet. I need to remove it because mice have been playing havoc somewhere. Wiring from the trunk through to where it drops under the carpet looks fine.

How flexible is the carpet? Wondering whether I can get away with removing the plastic trim along the doors, remove the driver's seat and rear seat and then fold the carpet over to inspect the wires.

Fairly flexible. Not like rug flexibility but not bad. Should be able check wiring unless the wiring is under the center console.

I believe all the wiring I want to check runs down the drivers side, I might try just folding back half of it and see if I can get away with not removing the center console and passengers seat. Just removing the drivers seat and the plastic sounds a whole lot more appealing. Debating adding some sound deadening to the floor though, so might end up removing it all anyway.

Thanks, will keep that in mind. How do the B-pillars come out? From what I understand the top piece pulls out at the bottom and then down, then the bottom piece just pulls up. But, you have to remove the top piece in order to get the bottom to come out.

Yes it's just clips. You don't need to take the entire thing out to take out the carpet.

No need, already have power and optical signal going to the trunk.

Can you leave the top piece in? And if so, how does the bottom piece come out? Everything I had seen said to remove the lower B-pillar trim you had to remove the upper piece. If I can leave the B-pillar alone and get the carpet out then it's one less thing to remove.

First I think you want to take the trim by the weather stripping out. those are just clipped in with metal clips. Be sure to give quick pulls as if you slowly just pry on it, it will keep the clip inside the car. After removing the trim by the feet. it should just pop off from the bottom if you pull on the B pillar.

Spent some time on this today, getting the center console out was a pain. I am ready to remove the carpet, but do those plastic square pieces that sit just behind where the seat bolts down need to come off? Or are they attached to the carpet? I tried pulling and one broke (yay 12 year old brittle plastics) so stopped there.

    I did find this though...

Fucking mice. Not yet sure on the best way to repair it, but willing to bet that is the cause of all my electrical issues.

For the carpet removal? Maybe not. I was gutting that car for a Part Out, but the glovebox can be removed in about 5 minutes. Just a few 8mm screws

No need to remove the glovebox at all, the carpet does not go up behind it.
