Bent all 4 rims in pothole

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I hit a huge unavoidable pothole and started getting a ruff ride afterwards. Dealer stated alignment was ok but all 4 rimms (OEM winter rims) were bent and needed to be replaced once I finish the insurance and dealer dance back and forth.

Insurance is covering the rims but was surprised no other damage happened. I hoping post replacement I'm back to smooth ride.

    Thanks for listening

I live in Las Vegas and every road is always being dug up and covered by a bulging metal plate. Needless to say I've bent and cracked numerous of wheels, just recently cracked a 21" avant garde wheel in 3 places lol! Luckly I had found 2 used ones from ecs tuning for a smoking price in the mean time I just had my current one repair while I wait for the replacements. Ish happens you're not alone!!

That happened when I had 2k on a new Jaguar. Sliced all 4 tires and bent all the rims. Time for and upgrade?

Oh I had no problems afterward. Ran true with no vibrations or pulling. Thankfully..

If surprised you didn’t get impact bubbles in the tires as well, did they check for that?

No bubbles.. I'm having the dealer handle insurance agent and replacement (was hoping for different rims but not sure how to work that) in case there's anything else after the replacements.

I am concerned something will go wrong with the tires earlier than expected but don't think I can justify anything currently.

I feel for ya! About a week after I got this car, I cracked a rim and needed a new tire. The car prior, OMG, I do had replaced a few rims and was changing flats left and right from pot holes. I think 3 of the 4 rims were bent when I got rid of it. It’s surprising that the cars can take a hit like that and not need to have front end work, at least I have not had to.

Is that auto insurance that covers or did you get the wheel protection package from dealer?

Also, was it to the point they could not repair and they are replacing with brand new ones? I've had all my wheels repaired from pothole bends.

Tri state area roads are terrible right now after the snow/plowing. I'm seeing potholes that look like sinkholes.

Still awaiting insurance agent to schedule day at dealer to verify and approve repairs. The dealer is slow but I want to make sure I do the work with them since I'm concerned about possible additional damage.

Rims could not be repaired and repair attempt due to flex could result in cracking the rim.

I'm hoping to get this issue approved and closed out next week so I can get repairs started.

    Thanks

I feel for ya. I hit a pot hole to the airport and bent the rim. I took it to a local shop that was able to straighten out the rim. Saved me alot instead of buying a replacement.

Post-straightening did you feel any difference?

I'm dropping off to the dealer on Wednesday and we'll see.

    Thanks

After straightening out the rim it was great. The shop showed me the before and after of the wobble when the wheel was on the wheel balancer machine. I did some research on yelp and the shop had really good reviews which is why i took it to them.

Hope the rims can get repaired.

Did you actually see the bend in the wheels? I mean it could very well just be that the wheels needs to be re-balanced.

Yep, there was an actual bend in the rim where you could see the bend when they spun the tire on the machine.

The day I was turning the car over to the dealer the driver side front tire went flat. Then found out the spare was flat (just got the car pre-owned from dealer 3months ago)..

Had the car towed since we had dramatic temp swings thinking the bent could have caused the a leak/flat since there was no visible hole and tires are 3months new. One of those going bad you need to let it end quickly and queitly.

Saga continues.. Getting loaner and ignoring the whole situation until next week.
