Hey guys,
I just got a 2018 A6 (Competition and PP packages) on Tuesday and my winter wheels and tires are being delivered shortly. Hence, I've got to do the wheel swap this weekend. I'm new to Audi and have only looked under the A6 one time. So, I've got a couple questions.
Background:
In order to swap wheels on one side of my old BMW, I'd normally use a floor jack, hockey puck (or jacking point adapter) and two jack stands. Essentially, I'd lift the whole side of the BMW using floor jack/adapter at the front jack-point which is similar (but rectangular) to Audi's cylindrical jack-point. Then, I'd slide a stand under the rear jack point AND another stand under the front central jacking point to support the whole front end. I don't see a central point for the front on the A6, but I want TWO support points while I'm working on the front in the highly unlikely event the floor jack fails while I'm under/near the car. I know it's silly, but when I was a kid, I actually had a car fall off one of those old scrappy jacks that connect to bumpers. I got a away from it as it was happening AND I had my spare wheel under the frame as a precaution. Since then, I absolutely will not be under or next to any portion of a car not supported by stands.
Questions:
(1) Is there a central jack-point/support under the A6 I can access without pulling off all the underside plastic panels? On the BMW, that central point protruded through a cut-out in the plastic, but I don't see anything similar on the A6.
(2) I assume I should remove the plastic inserts near the jack-points on the A6 before I lift the car so that I don't damage the side skirts/ground effects; is that necessary?
(3) Is there a good jack support point at the rear of the car I can use as a precaution while I'm working there? Again, with this newer car having more panels underneath and my general unfamiliarity, I'm just not certain how best to proceed.
Thanks so much for the comments!!
