Windshield Washer Fluid Not Squirting in Cold Weather!!

Hey Guys,

When I first got my 2015 b8.5 S4 the little squirter holes for the washer fluid were rusted and only one of the three holes were working. I bought replacements from ebay same part number as OEM. Installed them easy.

My problem is when the weather is under 35 degrees they do not squirt at all. After taking my car through the warm car wash they work for about 4 minutes then become inop again.

Do I buy audi OEM ones and replace mine?

Are the b 8.5 fluid squirters heated?

They shouldn't be freezing they are made for this type of weather to clean the salt.

Any help would be appreciated very frustrated, I live in Buffalo NY so the weather and salt is insane.

is your fluid freezing? I was having my fluid freeze w/in the reservoir itself -- apparently had a weird ratio where it froze when the temperatures dropped.

Just get the purple fluid if you haven’t already.

They can clog. Take a toothpick to them :)

I keep a sewing needle in my ashtray to adjust mine when they are misaligned, but rarely, if ever, has my fluid frozen in my B8. My issue always seems to be that ice builds up over the nozzles, being that they are underneath the hood and above the rain train. With the amount of snow we get around here, that area gets pretty packed with snow, at least mine does if I don't clear it.

I also only use the blue -20° fluid, as I have read some bad things about the rainx -40° fluid and your sensor.

The levels of salt used on our roads is absurd, but hey...we made the playoffs this year, so we've got that going for us.

Mine work regardless of temperature so far. They do however exclusively clean the windshield of the person behind me.

We used the orange/pink colored RainX fluid in my wife's car years ago and found that stray drops of it would permanently discolor the paint (the clear coat anyway). Now, that was a black Honda Civic so maybe the paint is not as good as on an Audi, but I have not used it since and would proceed with caution.

My vote is for the your fluid being frozen too. I use the blue -20 from whichever parts store and have never had any problems.

I had previously used the orange Rain-X exclusively, but saw and heard one too many stories of it gunking up the sensors on VAG cars. Better safe than sorry.

Rain x has also been shown to discolor and spot the black vertical trim on the sides of the windshield

Thanks for all the suggestions and help guys! Will check out the fluid to see if it’s frozen then maybe look for another type of fluid!

I personally do a half and half mix of regular blue fluid and the Orange Rain-X, never had any issues with clogged sensors or anything over the period of a couple of years. I know at one point they changed their "recipe" and the fluid looked a bit more red than orange and that stuff got recalled but never had issues with the orange Rain-X. I have had fluid come out in slush form on other cars in super cold temps even the Rain-X stuff. Make sure you use something that is rated for cold temps though.

I bought it to use after the racetrack, but found that it safely removes pretty much anything.
