    Tall people in the RS3

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Wondering how tall(ish) people are doing once they have lived with the car for a few months?

I am 6'1" but mostly torso (30" inseam), so when I am sitting I'm more like 6'3". Sitting in the car at the dealer if I moved my head just right I could lightly brush the headliner with my hair which is quite short already. I'm hoping I can either find a slightly different seating position or maybe the seat will just simply break in 1/2" or so, but at the end of the day it's not a deal breaker. There's more room overall than my current car and the seats are so comfortable it more than makes up for it. I asked the dealer about deleting the sunroof but they said you can't delete a standard feature.

I'm 6'1, and with the seat at the lowest position there is Plenty of head room. I even raised my seat 1 or 2 inches just because I liked the extra over-dash visibility and I still have at least a few inches above my head.

Ok, that's good to know. I don't know why but I always struggle for headroom in a lot of cars, maybe I have a weird build or just like a really upright position. I was thinking about buying a Camaro SS 1LE and when I sat in an SS with a sunroof my head was basically pressing on the roof . Then I search online and some guys saying they are like 6'6" and fit, so I have no idea.

I'm a shade over 6'1 myself, and similar to you, am proportionally longer in the torso than the legs (31" inseam)...I also carry some "girth as well . I've managed to find a seating position that works well for me, without any compromise to speak of, but there's no way I'd be raising my seat from it's lowest setting, nor would I be able to wear a helmet without being wedged in place.

I'll probably end up in the same boat. The helmet thing kind of sucks but it's not a huge concern. I would love to track the car but the closest tracks are pretty far away and half of them are private . Drag strip is another story but then you're only in the car for a few minutes. If anyone saw the first episode of The Grand Tour this season with helmeted Clarkson in the Lamborghini... I laughed because I can relate.

6'2 here. Car feels small but i have plenty of head room. I never feel cramped. Now for anyone sitting in the backseat behind me that is a different storyl .

6'3" here. Seat as low as it will go. Definitely not roomy like my S5 was, but it's ok. I wouldn't want to be taller, though ...

188cm here and somewhat proportional ... I find headroom ok but looking left I see way more door frame than I did with my B8.5 S4.

I'm 6'3" also… I have the seat as low as it will go, but that is my normal position in any car I drive. I have plenty of headroom, coming from 4 straight A4's I notice the interior is a little tighter, but I like the coziness.

So weird to me why Audi Canada/USA decided to keep sunroof standard, especially when you consider they could have charged another $1000 or whatever to the people that wanted them. Looks like 6'2" - 6'3" is about max for this car, which is a bit crazy. The sedan sunroof combo has the least headroom of all, I secretly wonder if this is part of the reason they went with manual seats since they're lower than the power.

I'm 6'2". I keep the rear of the seat bottom in the lowest position, and I have the front of the seat bottom tilted up about 3/4's of the way up. I will say that the rear view mirror is too low for me, and I wish you could move it higher up closer to the headliner because it partially obstructs my view. Also, I have to duck down slightly at certain intersections to be able to see traffic signals, because they are sometimes obscured by the windshield/roof line. If I could have gotten the S4 with the RS3 engine and vehicle weight, that would have been the perfect car for me. All that said, the RS3 is beyond fantastic and I have no plans on getting rid of it

Agree that there's no way I'd be able to wear a helmet in this car at 6'3".

Also wish the car didn't have the sunroof. Less headroom, rattles when open, creaks when the car is twisted torsionally.

6'3", 205 lbs. I have the back of the seat bottom cranked all the way down, the front of the seat bottom cranked all the way up, and the seatback about 10* off vertical (so, basically the seat back and seat bottom are roughly 90* with one another, just angled back). This is my preferred seating position in every car I've ever had, but anyway, in this orientation, there's no issue. The only time I hit the sunroof screen is when I move the back of the seat bottom up substantially.

Went back to the dealer today to check this all again since my OCD was getting the better of me. I wanted to double check my hair wouldn't touch over bumps and the steering wheel came out far enough, and they're both fine as long as the seat is all the way down, and not much bottom angle added, which I don't really like anyway. Another 1/2" headroom or the roof hole being an inch wider would really be nice but there's nothing I can do about it. The seat comfort is awesome, knee, leg, and shoulder room is good to great. I imagine once the seat breaks in a little I'll gain a little more wiggle room.

Somewhat related question - do the up and down lumbar buttons do anything? I was playing with them but didn't notice any change.

Yes, quite a difference, actually. Maybe the car has to be on for it to function.

I'm 6-2, longer legs. I fit okay with an Arai , but with my Bell K.1 it's not so pleasant i fit just not great. I have to lean the seat back which screws with my ability to see spacing on the front of the car, it might not matter that much given how unflattering the turn in on the car is (before i really judge it , i need to get a real alignment on it). the nice thing about the car is the telescopic wheel which lets you compensate for some of the driving angle but most of the issue is the seat isn't low enough to the floor. If i ever track the thing i might just rip out the seat and put a seat in when i track it which in theory would make it safer anyhow.

Does anyone know how much toe you can get on the rear with the factory links ?

Some guys on the Facebook group must be all legs or drive with a gangsta lean or something. One guy saying he's 6'3" and has a solid 3" of room and another is 6' and has 5" of room. I don't see how that's possible.

My friend John better known as "Big" John is 6'4 and 325'ish and he said it was comfy as a passenger. He did not like the fit of my Focus RS haha. He had the seat all the way back but the seat back itself was still nearly upright and he probably had an 1-1.5" of head room. I would say he is average as far as leg/torso height go.

One thing that rocks for us bigger guys at least is the seats, one of the very few sporty cars I don't find the seats too narrow... But I know most skinny guys think they are too wide. Even the seats in the other RS models I find quite a bit narrower.

205 cm / 6'8,5''. With the seat all the way back and down I sit really well in the front with half an inch or so to spare on headroom. No one with legs would be able to sit behind me though.

I know this is an old thread but I missed it the first time around... I actually am fairly uncomfortable in these seats. I'm 6'3" and find no matter how I adjust the seats my body always ends up with my left leg on top of the bolster a bit (so it rests on the provided footrest) - which makes my leg hurt after a bit - and my right ribcage accordingly gets jammed into the right bolster a bit.

I am always shifting constantly in my seat trying to get comfortable..
