3.0 Engine Pulleys and belt Diagram images

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello All,

So I've recently been having a squeaking sound under the hood in my 2011 S4. It sounds like either a squeaky pulley or belt. I've tried doing some searching online and can't really find an 3.0 T engine diagram that shows the pulleys and belts. Can anyone help me out? I just want to narrow down the squeak and know which pulley its coming from. A picture of the pulleys and belts would be very helpful.....Thank in advance!!

I'm pretty positive it's my "idler Roller" pulley. I'm not sure I can post a picture. Does anyone have a picture of the "Idler Roller" pulley for reference.

Was your "Idler Roller" pulley squeaking or you just replaced it to replace it? Also was there any heads up when your crank pulley failed? Any noises, sounds, lack of power? Also did you replace the crank pulley with another OEM one or another brand?

Idler pulley is a little vague.

Figure out the source of the noise or at least the rough location of it and we can help you.

I replaced it because it got gouged up when the crank failed and belts turned into spaghetti. Plus I was in there neways so I replaced as much as I could.

So the pulley that I think is making the squealing sounds is the "Idler Roller Pulley." I have it highlighted and pointing to it with the yellow line. If it's not called the "idler roller pulley" does anyone know the correct name? Who can name this part first!! come on everyone...

We can't tell you which one if we don't know which one... There are multiple.

A picture or description will be needed.

    nvm fixed it.

    OE: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...ey/06e903341h/
    After market: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ina-part...6e903341h~ina/

    I'd do the aftermarket.

Replacement is easy and might be possible without service position. (Depending on bolt length)

Is the idler pulley making noise on the main belt (closest to the engine) or is it the one on the front belt for the supercharger?

OK, now I see the image. It is the supercharger belt tensioner.

That one is available as an aftermarket MOOG part, if I recall. Inexpensive and easy to replace. It is held by only one center bolt. The new one comes already pre-tensioned in fully collapsed position with a pin through it. Easy peasy to install. You just bolt it up. There is plenty of slack to position the S/C belt. Get everything in place properly and pull out the pin.

I can't speak for the S4, but on the Q5 3.0T it can be replaced from below without having to put the front in service position. It is tight, but can be done. I think the center bolt requires a "triple square" bit. Don't recall for certain. I replaced mine when going with a Stage 2 tune. I noticed some weakness of the OEM spring. It moved way too easily when taking off the OEM belt. There was only about 14,000 miles on the car at the time. I wanted to make sure it was properly tensioned. Might not have been required, but it made me feel better. The replacement was much stronger.

I'll look up the part number and source, if interested, PM me.

    Refresh, I gave you links.

You might need to put the car in service position to get the bolt out.

Are you positive it's called a "supercharger belt tensioner."

I just took my car to a shop and they replaced my "supercharger belt tensioner." The squeak went away as I drove the car home and later that same day my car started to make the same squeaking sound again. I was under the impression the "supercharger belt tensioner" which I just had replace and a "Supercharger Belt Idler Pulley" are two different pulley's. The picture I posted has a yellow line pointing at some pulley which I thought was called "Idler Roller Pulley" aka "Supercharger Belt Idler Pulley." Now I'm confused if you think this is called "supercharger belt tensioner."

Can anyone please confirm or clarify.

1 is the tensioner, 3 is the idler.

It's definitely #3 the Idler Pulley. I just got my Supercharger tensioner pulley replace thinking that was the squeaking sound. But later that same day the squeaking noise came back. Is it a big job to replace the "idler pulley?"

Service mode is pulling the front support forward. No vcds required.

Shop time is probably like 2 hrs.

You do need 2 bolts so the bumper hangs on them. i don't remember the exact thread but someone will.

Squeeky noise could also be the other tensioner pulley, for the serpentine accessory belt (drives the water pump, AC, alternator, and power steering pump). I think pulling the radiator support forward, into the "Service Position" is a must....there is hardly enough room to do this when in the Service Position.....The front bumper cover has to come off, then about 12 screws/bolts, and the radiator support and the bumper beam can be pulled forward about 6 inches to get more room between the front of the engine and the back of the radiator/fan assembly.

So it sounds like its the "Idler Roller Pulley." Do you suggest I buy another OEM "Idler Roller Pulley" or buy an aftermarket one. If an aftermarket one......can someone offer a good brand. Last question is going aftermarket have any positives over OEM? Cheers.

The tensioner and idler are separate parts. Sorry for misunderstanding the source of the sound. I do not have a part number for the idler pulley.

For those who need the tensioner pulley, it is Gates 39332. Rockauto has it for about $66. This is made in Germany and appears to actually be OEM. Maybe we can find the idler from Gates?

For those who need the tensioner pulley, it is Gates 39332. Rockauto has it for about $66. This is made in Germany and appears to actually be OEM. Maybe we can find the idler from Gates?
Does anyone know the part number for the idler pulley. I looked on ECS tuning for the pulley and there area couple options some with pictures and some not so I'm not sure what one I need for a replacement part. Any help would be very appreciated.

I found this one at ECS tuning. I just want to make sure this is the same "idler pulley" that is in my B8 S4. Mine looks like it has rivots on the pulley and ecs one doesn't really show rivots. Is this the right part for my car?

This noise started about 5 days ago. Any ideas? It goes away after 5 minutes after a cold start.

I think I hear it, hard to tell though. Probably tough but if the video showed the sound going away that'd help. I swear mine sounds the same though....

Any luck determining the noise? I have something similar going on.
