Ramps for lifting front end of car

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have any good experiences (or bad) with tire ramps for lifting the front end of the car (2013 S4 on the stock peelers). I’m planning on taking off the front bumper to fit a RS style grill so perhaps anyone who has used them for that, but would also want to use them for oil changes. Amazon has some good priced ones but want to make sure they aren’t pieces of shit, they’ll work with our cars clearance, and I won’t crush myself to death

    Thanks in advance!

I use plastic ryno ramps all the time. Just make sure you use a jack stand or cinder block just in case! I do tons off stuff like undercoating, exhaust work, DV, and etc. Without a lift or having to go to a garage. ;)

Ramps work great. I got mine at harbor freight. I use them for all of my vehicles and for small stuff like oil changes.

    Always notice to have.

Prefer Race Ramps. Have available extensions for cars that have been aggressively lowered.

I have Rhino ramps. Can get back up easy but front won't clear (I'm lowered).
One issue with them is that if your garage floor is slick (like mine which is a finished epoxy floor), the ramps will go sliding when you try and drive up on them. Regardless - I've used them several times before and after being lowered. I've even jacked the car up and lowered it back down on the ramps instead of driving up them. I agree in using a jack stand to supplement just in case.

I've used the cheap plastic ones for years, most of the time I just use them to lift the car up so I an easily access the engine bay without having to bend over so much.

Only real issues with the ramps (Other than the sliding mentioned, I usually put 2x4's in front of ramps so they brace against my concrete lip on my garage floor) is that they tend to get in the way because of their length and you can't do any type of work on suspension or brakes because the wheel is your main support.

I'm curious to see your selection of board(s) to put in front of the Rhino Ramps. I tried doing this once using 2x8's and while it was enough to make the bumper lip clear the ramp, the tires kicked the boards out and dropped the car back down as soon as the tires went from the boards onto the ramps. That was enough to make me stop trying.

To the OP - because of the above, the last couple times I had the front bumper off I did it without lifting the car at all, and my car is lowered. All of the necessary fasteners are accessible with the car on the ground, you just have to lay down instead of crouching (although you might end up laying down even if the front end is lifted).

    +1

I have the 67” Race Ramps and love them.

I’ll add that I recommend the standard height ones over the low profile. You’re going to wish you had a couple more inches of space, I promise.

Thank you I was under the impression you pretty much had to raise it to get the bumper off properly from reading some other threads. Good to know

for Rhino Ramps..oh and I did the RS grille not too long ago and there is no need to lift the car..hardest part was probably getting the bolts at the very front (toward engine) of the wheel well.

I bought rhino ramps and the first time I put my wife's old car on them, they cracked and I threw them away. They made me nervous using them.

I built some ramps for my s4 using 2x8's and handles on the end to carry them. Glued and screwed them together. A little heavy but I don't worry about them at all. They are longer but clear my bumper with lip without any issues since i am able to fit the wheel on each step going up.
