    Audi A4 B7 2.0 downpipe removal

Is there a DIY for the downpipe removal? My issue is that there are three bolts connecting the downpipe to the cat. I can access all three bolts but the nuts turn so I need a second person to hold the nut in place, or find another solution. I prefer to find another solution before calling in the cavalry, so if anyone has a removal tip please let me know. Thanks!

    standard transmission ?
these three bolts were rusted to crap so I dropped it off at cat/ turbo connection and lowered it right off and zipped off the bolts.
There is one tricky bolt , the inside lower from cat to turbo but just use a universal and be patient . click , click , click ,

Yes, standard transmission. So it is easier to remove to the cat (4 bolts), then drop it all and remove the cat from the DP? I know that 4th bolt you mean, ouch cut looks easier than removing the DP. Thanks

Definitely drop them together. It’s not that bad. Getting the o2 sensors out is tricky but whole thing took me 20 minutes to drop once I had the car on jack stands
I think wrenching is about having the tools more than anything.

Good to know, I'll look up a video on that O2 sensor. The car is currently up on jack stands and I removed all but the downpipe, so close yet so far away.

Take the cat and DP out as one piece and separate out of the car for sure. Much easier.

You can probably take it all out from the top too.

Agreed remove from top as one piece (cat plus downpipe) on manual transmission car. Takes a bit of wiggling. There are many threads on this site about cat replacement that should help.

I'm just trying to figure out the best way to remove the cat from the turbo as there are a couple tricky bolts. Some say to remove heatshield, so say use a wobble socket. The space is so tight but I plan to attack it in the next hour so we should know soon enough.

I believe you can remove at least 3 cat to turbo nuts from the top. I did my test pipe install 4 months ago and I’m sorry I don’t remember exactly what I did. A propane or MAP gas torch makes stubborn bolts come out 😀

Took both the Cat and the Downpipe out from the top on on my 06' 2.0T Quattro (auto) to replace the Downpipe - Took out the uppermost heat shield as it was catching the Downpipe bolt flange otherwise - Lots of PB Blaster and patience (especially the fourth bolt) on the Cat to Turbo bolts - Once out its all "down hill" from there apart from a bit of a tricky spring isolation mount reconnect of the Downpipe to the Trans

I called up a buddy and with two people you can remove the downpipe without removing the cat from the turbo. I was really concerned with removing the cat from the turbo in case the gasket was damaged and I didn't have a replacement for that gasket. The gasket between the downpipe and cat was destroyed so I think I made a good call. The best way to remove the DP from the cat is two have one guy unscrew from the bottom, 13mm wobble socket and a second guy with a 12mm wrench coming in from the top, with the bottom guy helping the top guy place the 12mm wrench in place. Pain in the butt to remove and it can be done with two people, or a heavily skilled one-person job.

Mine was pretty rusted up . So I just used a wizard wheel to it. Since I had a aftermarket TT DP pipe that you can re-it. It didnt matter for me
