What is the factory 2.0T FSI spark plug heat range? Lots of research inside.

I am finding a lot of conflicting information online.

I have been using the HEAT RANGE 7 plugs below for the longest time, since that is what ECS tuning is calling ONE STEP COLDER than stock.

    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ngk-part...four/bkr7ekt1/

But if you look at the NGK website, their factory replacement plug is a heat range 7. Again see below.

    http://www.partcat.com/ngk

This is a Spark Plug Cross reference website which states that the factory NGK heat range is indeed 7. Denso is 22 which matches up. See below, two links with lots of plugs.

    http://www.sparkplug-crossreference....t/vw/06H905621

    http://www.sparkplug-crossreference....GK_PN/PFR7S8EG

And here, JHM is stating the same information as ECS about heat ranges. Their Bosch plugs state heat range 6 is OEM, but as a matter of fact based on these other sites, it is actually heat range 5 that is stock for the Bosch plugs on the 2.0T FSI engine. JHM site below,

    https://jhmotorsports.com/catalog/pr...t/category/44/

Now when i go on the genuine Audi parts site they have this part number listed as stock. 06H905621 Based on the reference website that correlates to heat range 7 for ngk and 22 for Denso.

    https://genuineaudiparts.com/parts/2...iagram=1398235

So who is actually correct? Is GAP wrong? are all the cross reference sites wrong? Or are both JHM and ECS wrong?

Should we actually be buying heat range 8 NGK for stage 2 and up? or heat range 4 Bosch if you will?

To my knowledge, Bosch stock heat range is a 6. So going by the chart, a 5 would be colder with Bosch and a 7 would be colder with NGK. Now here’s the wrench in the works. The chart isn’t cmpletely linear. Don’t forget they are only ranges. A Bosch 5 and an NGK cross reference won’t be exact. You could use a 7 but maybe an 8 would be better depending on boost levels.

Having said that, I’ve used Bosch 5 and NGK 7 heat ranges and both work excellent with my K04R

Then why does NGK say its replacement plug is a heat range 7? Thats where im confused.

I edited my post. BOSCH plugs are heat range 6 as OEM. Colder in a Bosch plug is 5 and that cross references to a 7 in NGK. Like I said before, the cross reference isn’t exact as these are only heat ranges. A 5 Bosch will always be colder than a 6 Bosch but if you reference a NGK plug to a Bosch 5, you could use a 7 but you might be better off with an 8.

I got a long chat with Charles on that.

I found the same info as op, plus maybe 1 or 2 more places saying ngk 7 are an upgrade.

This is annoying, because, I don't craft those sparkplugs, so I rely on my researches only, in this case I made 3 search and I found that 7 are 1 step colder.

-At the end, yes there's many discussions about this, ngk website stating that 8 are 1 step colder.
    - Audizine sparkplug post stating the same
    - But most sellers stating that 7 are 1 stepcolder, so many discussions on the board.

    >>And you know what, the real test is the members experience at this point. (or lab testing)

I'm on stage 2, ngk 7, car is running fine at wot, no matter if its -25°C or 30°C outside. no missfire or detonation.

If i could find some NGK coppers in heat range 8 id get them and try since they are cheap, but im not spending $40 on iridiums to throw the dice.

I'm only stage 1 but I've run NGK 7 and 8 iridiums and don't really notice a difference. Probably would matter a bit more if I had a more aggressive tune. This was based on info in the sparkplugs post referring to NGK 8 as 1 step colder

Ive had good success with the NGK 7s in copper, but i wanted to see about 8s, too bad i cant find them with resistors in copper. Only in Iridium.
