Post Common issues of the C7 3.0T after 60k | How's yours holding up?

Lets document the common issues/problems/faults that the C7 3.0T has past 60,000 miles.

There isn't a TON of information regarding the reliability of the C7 generation 3.0T, so I figured I would start something that would allow us to keep track of such. How has the reliability of yours been?

    Purchased car at 68k miles.

    2 weeks later got CELs.

Cat Efficiency Below Threshold (likely remedy with software update but will install O2 spacers just in case)
Air bank efficiency (got carbon cleaning 1x good will from dealer)
PCV Valve under performing, recommend "breather valve" replacement (declined at the time)

Great first post - this is the kind of info I am interested in. The mileage when things start hitting the fan.

o2 spacers may not help if the cats are ACTUALLY clogged though.. it might be worth hollowing them out and getting an ECU tune that deletes the cats. I haven't even touched carbon cleaning or PCV at 80k yet..

How do you diagnose a bad wheel bearing?

I'm at 63k miles and burn two quarts of oil between 10k mile oil changes. Burned 1qt between first 30-40k miles.

    Other than that, been good.

Currently, I'm at 82,500 miles, no modifications

No oil consumption issues since switching to Motul at 58k miles.

2-4 second rattle at start-up noted since 65k miles

Flex pipe started leaking at 68k miles (I actually like the extra noise, and cold starts take me back to my A4 3.2 days).

Replaced both rear wheel bearings at 77k miles (one was preventative).

Knock on wood, those are the only issues and not one is troubling.

I have 85K + miles on my 2012 A6. I have had very few problems over the 6+ years I have owned this vehicle.

My first warranty issue occurred a few months after I bought my car. The side assist light on the drivers mirror was replaced. It was causing that feature to randomly disable itself. A TSB came out indicating a problem with these lights.

The driver assist package quit working, also shortly after purchase. The problem was traced to a grounded 5 volt power line to a rear sensor. It was fixed by bypassing the short since the actual short could not be located.

Car overheated due to a failed thermostat. Mileage was around 42K when this occurred. Thermostat and water pump where replaced under warranty. Water pump was replaced by dealership as precaution since a overheat condition had occurred.

Water pump and both engine mounts were replaced in April of 2016. Since the water pump had been replaced 2 years prior the dealership did a 50% cost sharing with me.

Since I have tracked this car numerous times I consider these issues to be normal wear and tear except for the water pump. That should have not starting leaking with such low mileage on it.

The engine does not use any oil in between oil changes.

For me, above 40mph, the bearing on that side gave off a low humming noise. Backing in or pulling out of the driveway I could hear only what i can describe as "creaking." Others might have a better description.

I've never owned an Audi that didn't need multiple wheel bearing changes. Good to see that they're still consistent there.

2012 A6. Just did water pump and lower control arm bushings at 58K. All under CPO warranty, thankfully. PLUS, the dealership guys were great and didn't flag my APR tune.

Funny enough, my motor mounts went out too. Car vibrated so bad, it was embarassing and terrorizing. Paid $1300 to have them replaced as well as my upper control arm bushings. Car drives like it's brand new now. I'd urge you to get em done, such a breath of relief.

Did others with shot motor mounts get vibration during cruise as well? Its certainly mounts at idle but even after a fresh wheel balance I'm getting lots of vibration at highway speeds/~2k rpm

    2012 100K

-both motor mounts were shot since 80K(when purchased, replaced right side - much better but not 100%)
    -both front wheel bearings replaced
    -cooling fan fuse blown
-A LOT of carbon buildup on intake valves
-dirty injectors(no issues but still dirty)
-few misfires due to bad/old spark plugs
-any start rattling 2-4 seconds (much louder with older oil)
-hard upshift/downshift (need to reprogram trans per TSB)

That's about it for issues, replaced bunch of stuff just as a routine preventive maintenance.

Everything I did is in my signature link

I started getting a loud roar that was speed dependent and a passenger was able to crawl in the back and isolate it to the rear side of the car. Replaced one side which GREATLY quieted it down, just to begin hearing the glorious symphony of the other side beginning to howl.

65K, my crank pulley pretty much crumbled apart. Didn't seem like a common problem here, moreso with the S4 crowd.

Other than that, judging from this thread, my motor mounts need to be replaced and the usual oil consumption, but she runs like a dream overall.

    Vibration issue is bugging me!!!

It vibrates when idling on P, vibrates much less when idling on D. I had the dealer check the mounts when they did the 55k service last week, but they are saying that the vibration is normal.

Hard to buy the dealer claims. Any tips? Getting a bit desperate!

Just had 1 motor mount completely fail, which was replaced under Audi Pure. Wish they just replaced both because now, while it didn't completely break yet, the other needs to be replaced.

Mines at the dealer with a dead motor mount/transmission mount and at least one wheel bearing. At least this thread gives you a good idea of what’s gonna fail

Great thread here, I’m at 51k and can feel a slight vibration at ideal so I’m guessing motor mounts are in my future.

What’s the average cost for this repair at an indy shop? Any cost savings if you replace both at the same time vs. when each fail separately?

You can save on the motor mounts by buying them at ECS tuning. My indy quoted me around $100 more per mount. 6-7 hour job.

I'll give you a clue. Change anything on your car right before that popped up?
