Honestly I try to keep them limited. It was driving me nuts to get notifications from so many different apps. How often are y'all just chilling in your cars watching TV haha

I want to start looking into a way to making the screen castable for the very rare times I'd ever be parked long enough to watch something.

Hi everyone, i managed to get a used S3 unit and the experience had been great so far. On the latest firmware, and all is good and snappy.

Just a little question and was hoping someone had done this before. The S3 supports dual apps running at the same time, side by side; split-screen function. I want to launch Spotify app (now playing screen) alongside Warez?
I am currently using Macrodroid which is free on google play to automate the auto-start of wifi hotspot on the s3 (had a 4G LTE sim card inserted) and Spotify with autoplay.

If anyone had done this before, do let me know the steps.

Yeh the new DRM stuff is a pain. Did you look around to find a apk that is compatible with Android 9? I find that the xda-dev guys can be helpful with that sort of thing.

It's weird because I can download the app, and it seems like it plays but there is no video/audio. If it was a DRM issue I would assume you couldn't download the app at all like Netflix.

To get split screen working, you press this button and it will give you a kill application list basically. Hold the the app you want to open and on the left side of the screen, a message will pop up asking if you want to split screen that app and you drag it over. Next you click the home button, click on Waze (or Spotify) and it should open it up on the 2nd split screen.

I did the update twice thinking I messed up the first time. First time I went through what you went through, it updated on it's own. Then the second time I did exactly what sharrisct25 did by pressing the home button (screen shot from his Youtube video) before it updates. Then did the Android update then MCU then import factory settings. I'm still not getting the time thing working. I'm using a different launcher so not sure about the main screen icons.

For the 2nd picture, there are 3 settings in the MCU settings. Did you choose the 2nd one? I think you have it on the 3rd (UK) setting.

I can double check that this would work on the RSNav unit but I don't see why not. Your trigger could be a number of things. For me I wait for a network connection to occur and then have Tasker set a variable to true. That way I can have a trigger for when the headunit is “booted up”

Join the Facebook group. It's a lot more active and I think Daniel responds a lot quicker on there versus here on the forum. You'll probably get quicker answer if it's possible or not.

Super frustrating that a non-public forum is the main source of communication on a $800 piece of equipment. Especially when a site and RSNav forum both exist.

I'm not even sure what happened to the RSNav forum. Even when they first started it, no one was posting on there. I think the admin gave up which is why they switched over to FB. That's my guess since "User Community" directs you to FB group instead of the forum now.

That said, the FB group has been a lot more helpful because there's a ton of more active users than the forum ever had.

I created and am hosting the RSNAV forum for Daniel. It never really caught on, the Facebook group is more convenient for most to signup for and use, so it does look to be the go to site for user community discussion.

I think it is easier for Daniel to read and respond to questions there, it’s also easier for other community members to engage and help as well.

Eventually I will end up shutting down the forum. Soon likely. But will setup a redirect to go to the FB group. :)

Just an update this for sharing:
Tasker is amazing. I have setup the following:
1) On Device Boot (Basically as soon as RSNav is fully turned on)
- Start Wifi tethering
- Start spotify - wait 2 seconds
- Toggle split screen - wait 2 seconds
- Start Waze
- Play spotify songs

Results: Wifi tethering is turned on automatically (For the kids' ipads). Spotify is launch on the left side of the screen, playing songs from last played playlist. Waze is launched on the right size of the screen.

Daniel - I got frustrated last August with the installation, and I shouldn’t have been so critical in my post. I am sorry. The RSNav is a huge improvement for my car, and you deserve credit for developing it. My last car (an Infiniti) didn’t have navigation. When it was time to replace it, I found a stick shift S4 with low miles for a great price. It had everything I wanted except, of course, nav. I was resigned to owning another multifunctional display that couldn’t be upgraded. Your kit made it possible. I’m actually glad I didn’t get a factory nav S4. The RSNav gives me Waze and much more. Probably like 300+. If you take it to more well known mod shop, expect to pay more. I paid a good chunk for my install but he's a well known and trusted mod shop.

Depends on the install. If you have a OEM backup camera and a automatic/DSG with MMI the install is pretty damn quick. No splicing needed everything just snaps in. If you follow the sequencing correctly you will not even get codes that need to be cleared. The longest part is dropping the glove and removing the trim. Even if you need the backup cam or have a manual the stuff you have to do is pretty common for a after market installer.

So I give everybody the same advice when they ask me.

1. Review the manual to get an idea of what complications might relate to your install. I say this because many of the installers may not have ever done one before so they will high ball the install time assuming they have to splice a harness together etc. If you install is all plug in a good installer should be able to get it done and packed away in less than 3 hours. If it is complex probably 5 at the most.
2. The next question is how anal are you about your car. If you are really detail oriented like me you need to go to a high end shop, it should be a car electronic shop, definitely one that does Euros and ideally they have done a RSnav or at least done a android unit from China before. A lot of mechanics will say they can do this but my experience is many can't do it well. I say that because it is not like they can call Kenwood to get help. If you are not as detailed oriented anybody can get this installed and working, you could just bring it to best buy. They may however break a few clips, or loose one of the fins from your driver side air vent (very common btw).
3. Any installer you go to should agree to get the instructions and review them before you get onsite. Unless they have done a RSnav before that should be considered homework. They will need to have the manual with them while they are doing the install anyway but they should have a general idea what they are in for prior.
4. Finally I would have both the wiki, and this thread handy on a phone or tablet when you get to the installer. Just incase something goes left these are your best resources. I have installed or help install like a half a dozen of these now and of the times I hit a snag only once has Daniel been immediately available.

Went through and checked all connections. Nothing seems off: no pins pulled, no loose connections. When I removed the CANBUS bypass, no change to unresponsive buttons. When I removed the main quad lock bypass from the MMI, the buttons started working again so the problem seems to be related to to harness. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I unplugged them all, reseated them and ensured they were locked in and everything worked fine. I have read that others have found that if the connections to the AC controls were not locked in that this caused the controls to be unresponsive. In one case I think I saw in facebook somebody had issues with the controls until they selected the right car in the settings menu as outlined in the user manual. I have also read people that had to fix or replace the wiring harness in these cases.

I would suggest you replug and ensure all the connections are tight Check the settings are correct. If after that the problem persists contact Daniel.

The flashing lights are normal to my understanding. I was told that I think by Daniel when I installed my first unit years ago. Since then every unit I have installed has had the two passenger side button lights blinking. It is a bit annoying but has never effected the usability.

CANBUS and AC connections were tight. Ended up removing the harness entirely, and everything worked with factory connections so at least nothing is broken. I reached out to Daniel to see if he has any other suggestions. If it's user error I am just not sure where.

So not sure which part if any was improperly connected but after starting from scratch it seems to be working. I think it turned out to be software related as the LEDs first fired when I changed the vehicle type to the B8 without MMI and then back to the HN/MMI option.

Also you were more than helpful, I would say instrumental, as I watched your install video before starting and again after messing up :)

Now the hardware part is over and I can start playing with the software.

Hi! Sorry if this was already addressed in one of the posts. I installed the 10.25 s3 into my 2012 q5 with concert radio. I'm having 2 issues that's really bothering me:

1. I can't log into my Pandora music app, I keep getting a google play service error when I open it and even though I can enter my email login, I can't try to enter password because the login button has overlapped into where I type the password. Is there some way to get Pandora working without me having to stream it off my phone?

2. I get an annoying whine or feedback noise in the center speaker as soon as my car turns on. Daniel told me "For carista, You need to activate aux. As well as deactivate mdi." I did buy Carista but don't see these options on the app and Daniel has stopped replying to my emails 😅
