I wish I could get my damn Homelink to program to my garage door. I've done everything by the owner's manual and nothing works to get it to program. I couldn't get my Acura TL to link up with it either. Pain in my ass.

Probably something with the code from the actual door opener. When I was doing mine there was some crazy procedure if it was like "rolling" or something code where its like always a different "code" and the programming looked like a PITA. Luckily mine worked with the basic programming.

Yeah since my garage door opener is newer, I assume it has a rolling code style system. I was looking through another thread about it a little while ago and since it has a rolling code you have to keep retrying it until the car finally stores all the codes or something like that. I thought it would be a get it on the first try type deal, but I guess not. I gave up after trying the one day a few months ago and just put one of the extra openers in the car. Maybe I'll give it another shot over the weekend and see if I can get it to link.

there is a button the back of the unit that drives the door screw or chain. that is the key to getting it to work after you have pressed the proper sequence in the car. 5 mins or so after that you have to depress the button.

Correct, that is the learn function on the garage door control unit itself. I pressed that button so the car could learn the codes and the door still wouldn't program. I'll have to give it another go this weekend and see if I can get it to work.

Yes sir, I think that's where I went wrong before. I didn't give it enough attempts for the car to learn all of the rolling codes before I got frustrated and gave up.

I find that other instructions like from homelink usually work better than the manual.

That learn button on the unit is also the key to make it forgot all the remotes including programmed cars. I think you have to hold it for a while and then it erases all the remotes. Unfortunately, that requires that you have to reprogram the remotes that you are still using. The programming for rolling code units is a two way affair. The unit itself has to learn the car remote, not the other way around. This procedure syncs the seed, so that both units independently generate the same new code after each use.

Something people don’t think about doing. It’s scary, I bought my s4 cpo from the dealer, they didn’t wipe out any of the previous owners settings. Had their home address programmed in the nav and their homelink.

Also same with buying a home, delete your garage opener. Sold our home years ago and the garage was still programmed to my homelink

I got it to work today. Mine didn't use a rolling code, which I thought was odd given that my garage door opener is a newer system. I was able to just put the car in program mode and then use the remote transmitter in front of the car. The turn signals flashed 3 times saying it was successful, but when I tried the homelink button the garage door didn't go down. I did the same process again and the second time around it worked. If it didn't work the second time, I was then going to do to the rolling code method described in the manual, but luckily I didn't have to.

Also side note, in my car I didn't have the option of programming the garage door through the MMI.
