S3... Any reason to get tech package?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys, currently doing some research and considering an S3 as a new car.

As far as I know, all versions of the S3 now come with Apple Carplay which I could use for nav. Assuming that is true, and please correct me if I'm wrong about that, is there any reason to spring for the tech package if the B&O stereo isn't a big selling point? I don't care about Audi Connect and I actually prefer the standard gauges over the virtual cockpit.

Thanks for any input, or any other must-have options. It looks like the base model is already a fantastic car even without augmentation.

I️ know when I️ was buying my S5 I️ thought the package was just nav but it came with more goodies in the interface like individual drive select and other things I️ forget .. if u can narrow down all the other things but nav that would be the deciding factor

The only thing that was a must for me from tech pack was parking sensors and side assists. Although mine is a MY16 and did not have the virtual cockpit option. If you don't care about these, definitely save the cash for performance mods.

Only thing I would check if you don't care about nav/virtual cockpit/audi connect/b&o is that the center pop up screen is the same size. I thought it was smaller in non-nav cars, like 5.8" vs 7". That would annoy me.

I think the B&O is worth it. But if sound quality isn't a priority for you I don't see any reason for the upgrade given the fact you prefer standard gauges.

Same size, I think... given that it retracts it would require extensive engineering to offer two sizes.

Yeah. There are actually very few option packages for these things now.

No, the housing is of course the same size, but the actual LCD is smaller. Smaller one has a big border around it. Looks cheap imho.

apple carplay sucks but the virtual cockpit alone is worth it! it's awesome. To me it's a must have.

I got the tech package on my 2018 and I’m so glad I did. The virtual cockpit is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It’s really incredible and makes the driving experience that much more “race car”.

The b&o system is night and day. I’ve had $4k+ in audio equipment in my last 3 cars. I’m talking high end Focal and Nakamitchi audio with multiple amps and batteries. The b&o isn’t that good, but it’s damn close and mid volume. The louder you get the more you can hear a difference. The non b&o was awful in my opinion.

What sucks about Carplay? I use it daily. Easy way to text while driving and music sounds better than via the BT connection. The iTunes interface could use some work, but overall it's not bad.

I use wazes and voxer for work so CarPlay makes doing anything other than calling and texting difficult at best. I wish it would have more apps available for it.

Agree about the lack of apps. Hopefully Waze becomes available soon.
