Aftermarket Exhaust hot v. cold expansion

Do all aftermarket exhaust expand to about an inch more in the tips when hot? I've seen/heard this happening on milltek, wondering if it happens on APR, Borla, Etc.

Also, does anyone know which exhaust will provide low-mid range power. I heard/read that the milltek is more for the upper end. Will any of the quieter ones provide low-midrange power?

    Thanks,
Searching didnt give me my info

My custom Labree exhaust expanded a little when i first got it, but not anymore.. My right tip (when looking at the back of the car) expanded to the right about 2" and melted my rear bumper

Never had it expand out towards the rear of the car thou..

Its comon for all exhausts to expand and contract when heated up at first and sometimes they dont do it at all..

All exhausts expand when they get heated. Hot metal expands and when it cools it contracts.

My Milltek is installed in such a way it is flush with the bumper when cold and protrudes just over an inch when hot.

It expands like that all the time since I've owned it but I have to have had the car running long enough to heat up the exhaust.

On short trips there isn't much of an extension... maybe 1/4" to 1/2"

I havent noticed it much on my Thermal but then again, I never thought to stare at my tips before and after driving.

When it comes to power, more than likely as with any exhaust for any car, the louder it is (because of a more open flow design) the more power you will gain. The quieter (more restricted to keep the sound down) the less you will gain. Just basic logic. Then again, if you have it too open like a 4" straight pipe all the way through, youll just lose power because you need some backpressure. And a ricer fart can is just a tip, loud but no power.

There are specific measuring points to adjust the exhaust system supports to when the exhaust is being installed, so that as it expands with warmup to operating temps, the exhaust system tubing and the exhaust system supports will not be placed under stress and strained during operation. See Bentley.
