Fog light works, but still get a bulb our warning

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just as the title states. Every ten seconds or so my warning light comes on to tell me I have a fog light out, when it is in fact working fine. The warning goes away after five seconds or so, and then comes back on five to ten seconds later and just repeats this over and over. I didn’t use my dogs on the way to work this morning and the warning never came on. Any ideas on what I should be looking for? The wiring is in good shape and the connectors don’t have any corrosion.

What kind of bulbs are you using? If you are using LED bulbs, there is probably not enough resistance in the bulb or line and the car sees it as a bulb being out.

I got silverstars for both sides. The right side doesn’t give any warning.

Could be a filament that has an intermittent connection; before switching bulbs side to side though try bending the lowermost socket connector portion up a little but - on my car that solved an intermittent connection; I think the solder on the base of the bulb sometimes warms up slightly and flows reducing the amount of contact.

Ah good idea. I will try that when I work on it again next week.

I just fixed the same exact problem with my tail light this morning. For me everything worked fine but the warning light would pop up and stay then go away for a day or two.

When I went to replace the bulb I found that the old one had melted to the actual housing at the contact point. I cleaned it up but a little chunk of metal was missing so the problem didn’t completely go away.

I bought a new bulb assembly for cheap from a local guy doing a part out and everything works perfectly.

Try taking your bulbs out and see if that’s the same issue you’re having as well. Good luck!

like previously stated. I had this issue with my left turn signal . would saying the bulb was out but it was working fine in the other side. i was not getting light from the left side at all any time.
it was the one of the little metal tabs that press onto the bulb and provide full contact. just pressed them in slightly (don't break them) and everything is back to normal over a year now.

I had an intermittent fog light warning issue a few years ago. Using a digital multimeter, I managed to trace it down to a flakey ground on the fog light harness but you couldn't tell anything was wrong by just looking at it. The break was inside the connector itself as the brown wire just pulled right out of the connector. I just carefully picked the metal contact out of the connector and, instead of re-crimping it back on, I soldered the wire on the contact. No issues since.

It's mind over matter. But if you don't have a mind, it really doesn't matter.

I finally got around to working on it today. The above is EXACTLY what was wrong with it. Thank you for the assistance!

Glad it worked out for you. That's what this forum's for, right?

Glad GTA saw this thread, I totally missed it sorry.

Add me to the club. Mine would do the same thing due to the same problem. The PO had tried to fix it and totally screwed the connector in the process. I had to splice in a new one to fix it. All good since.

Starting to see a pattern here. Mine was only the left (driver's) side. Haven't had a problem with the right side.

I wonder if it has to do with the heat from the factory intercooler? The rest of the wire was brittle and I had to go back quite a ways to get good copper.

Wait, no. This side has an open vent for the intercooler, thus exposing it to the elements. The passenger side vent is closed. Makes sense now.
