    Gen 4 Haldex filter change

Ok Guys. How many of you have wanted to do the 75k service and decided to take on the Haldex unit only to find that Audi states that the filter does not exist. That was my dilemma earlier this week.

Further research has taught me a few things that I will share with you now.

    1. Our cars have filters for the Haldex unit.
    2. Depending on when you car was made means you have either a gen 3 or a gen 4 Haldex unit.
    3. Then filters for gen 3 and gen 4 are not the same. (Mine was 4/2011 and I have a gen 4.)
    4. Audi states that gen 4 Haldex filters are "LIFETIME" (why put a filter in if you never change it?)

Now comes the most important part of this. YOU CANNOT BUY THE GEN 4 FILTER FROM AUDI. They don't even show a listing in the catalogue. There are a few companies out there that have sourced it directly from Haldex and will sell it to you for $89.99 + $28 bucks for the fluid. This is where it gets interesting.

As we all know our Haldexes are not unique snow flakes. There are a number of cars from all walks of life that use the same unit. Most notably in the list is the Volvo XC90 from 2009+. Because they are the same unit the filter is the same. I have found that Volvo will sell the filters but this website has them for $35.49 each. Looking at the numbers on my filter and on the one in the picture they are identical. 114388

I was just going to change the fluid and not the filter but I have read about people having problems with the filters clogging, the rear wheels not working locking in at all and in some cases the Haldex pump failing. That brings me back to the statement earlier of why put a filter in and not change it?

Hope this helps save the life of even one Haldex pump.

I keep searching and what I find for a part number is HALDEX.111358 which is different (not the same as Volvo).

    (from a Haldex repair website)
    HALDEX 111358

As fitted to 2008 onwards vehicle such as Audi TT, VW Tiguan, VW Golf R etc
Complete with Rubber Seals, Nylon Retainer, Screws and Cover

We recommend oil and filter change 40K mile intervals.
For performance/off road/track use make more frequent changes for better 4wd locking ability.

This is the most common fault with Generation 4 Haldex vehicles.

The filter which “does not exist” according to VW/Audi gets clogged up as it is never changed on services, it does not exist on their parts system, and on their diagrams is listed as “fitted for life, non service item”.
    01155 – Clutch – 003 – Mechanical Failure – Intermittent
    02248 – Valve for Controlling Clutch Operating Angle (N373) – 014 Defective – Intermittent

    Fits Generation 4 Haldex Vehicles e.g. post/after 2008:-
    Audi TT, TTS, TTRS, A3, S3, Q3
    Seat Altea, Alhambra
    Skoda Yeti, Superb
VW Golf 4 Motion R32, GTi, R32, Tiguan, Sharan, Pasat
    Audi A3 S3 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012
    Audi TT Coupe 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010
    Audi TT Coupe 2.0L 2011, 2012
    Audi TT Roadster 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010
    Audi TT Roadster 2.0L 2011, 2012
    Audi TTRS Coupe 2012
    Audi TTRS Roadster 2012
    VW Transporter Late Model
