I'd like to preface this by saying that I've been scouring Google and these forums for days, and either my search terms are terrible, or there's no information for exactly what I'm looking for.
So, I have a 2010 A4 Premium Plus with the MMI3G. I decided to undertake going to 3G+ so I bought the headunit and center buttons off eBay. Not a huge deal. Or so I thought.
I've called the only two "local" Audi dealers (both over an hour away) to schedule a time to get my car in to get the component protection removed. Both have told me the same thing. I need the VIN from the car the "new" radio came from as well as the Serial Number on the actual unit. The SN on the unit isn't a big deal, obviously, but the seller I bought it from sells multiples of these a day and has absolutely no idea what car it actually came from so no VIN. Both Audi dealers basically told me I'm screwed and I need to find someplace that's not them to get it removed.
I also know about the AudiEnthusiast.com website and I read that but I don't have the tools or skills necessary to do that myself, and I'd rather not mess either unit up. As much as I hate the dealerships, I'd rather just get it done by them and call it a day.
So, what are my options here? Does anyone know of a place that can remove that protection from the unit for me? Is there someone here on AZ that can do it? I read through the actual thread that does the 3G to 3G+ swap so I figured getting Audi to remove it wouldn't be difficult, and that's why I decided to proceed with this. Any and all help is very much welcomed.
And if I didn't search properly or something, feel free to flame me as I probably deserve it.
