Measured Stock HP and Torque for New TTRS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
In shopping for a tune for my TTRS, I did some research to find that the measured stock HP at the crank is 438HP and the torque is 387 ft-lbs according to Unitronic which used the German built Maha dyno. I spoke to one of the engineers a Unitronic and while many dynos require a guesstimated straight line conversion between wheel HP and crank, the Maha measures drive train drag on the dyno run down to provide a more accurate (+/- 2% according to Maha) non-linear conversion across the entire range of RPM. See all the Unitronic data on 93 octane below:

While this may sound like a Unitronic ad, to the contrary and I will wait to see what APR comes up with as I would expect it to be more impressive.

438HP/387TQ Stock on 93 gas, I think that sounds about right. It’s not a secret that the engines Audi make usually make more power than what they advertise. Since Audi advertises TTRS engine to make 400HP/354TQ on 91 gas, the numbers Unitronic published sound legit to me.

I posted this same graphic in response to another question in the new RS3 specific forum and Arin of APR responded that their dynos had not seen HP numbers as high as Unitronic has published. See http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...0#post12744700

I will wait for APR to officially publish numbers and won’t take Arin’s words for granted. APR and Unitronic are competitors and APR has a fair share of exaggerating the numbers themselves so it could be a way to keep us waiting for their tune too as they are not the first to release this time.

Also, since I’m local to 034 I got a wind that 034 is working on the MK3 TTRS tune as well.

APR reporting lower numbers stock makes the tune look better.

You shouldn’t compare dyno to dyno. There are too many variables. You can use different runs on the same dyno, preferably in as close to the same environmental conditions as possible, to measure the effects of part installs and tuning on one specific vehicle. That’s all. And even that is challenging.

Well I for one could not care less what the numbers say I care about the track results, John@unitronic has been runni by 10.93 in his ttrs and when I went to the drag strip last week I got to the same 1/4 mile pass on a full stock stg1+ car with only 800 miles on it so I couldn't be happier that what unitronic is advertising is what you get so often I have seen competitors take their cars to the track run and amazing number and then no one can replicate that with the same car and tune.

To me what you see is what you get with unitronic load up the software and run 10s what is not to love. I think Apr is going to say whatever they need to save face and in reality I think they realise their car is not as fast so they had to go back and do more testing to try and match what uni did.

This has not been my experience. When the MKIII TTS came out in late 15, I drove it to APR so they could verify their tune on my launch edition TTS. They put my car on the dyno, I have a copy of the results in spread sheet form and the absolute and delta HP and ft-lbs numbers are both higher than those they published for that engine on their web site.
