PPF - Paint Protection Film and Audi Paint......

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Being new to the Audi world, I don't know if the front ends are fairly paint chip resistant or if they are paint chip magnets.

So, can I get some opinions and/or real world comments on if I should be putting PPF on my 2018 A6? At a minimum, it would be a front 1/3 type (partial hood, fenders, full bumper, etc)

I would definitely protect that paint. Not sure how durable the paint actually is, wasn't taking any chances. Got it PPF and ceramic coating next day after delivery. Bumper, whole hood, fenders, headlights, mirrors, A pillar, rockers and luggage area. X-pel and C quartz.

^ this, well worth it. Especially on brand new car. Audi paint is hard but that doesn't prevent chips, scratches and swirls...

Oh man, I would definitely do it. I've always had black cars and wished I put film on the front. My black 95 s6 was just a chip magnet.

If you are keeping your car for a while, id do it. I went with 3m 7 year.

I went with XPEL Ultimate, and after 64,000 miles I could not be happier with that decision.

I'm thinking about getting the Expel also.

Did you have the full hood or partial?

PPF is well worth it if you plan to keep the car for awhile. I'd recommend doing the entire front end. The half hood/fenders always looks bad, IMO, and the cost difference should not be huge.

BTW, I've been a big fan of XPEL for awhile, but I'd also give a good look at Suntek if I were getting PPF today. It has better clarity than the Xpel.

+1 what he said on a black car, lines would be noticeable if you went partial

I did the full hood. I also did the bumper, fenders, kick panels and rear bumper.

    Do it!

And like others said make sure they do the full hood!
I didn't realize my dealer was only doing 1/2(or 1/3) hood, and of course I now have stone chips just above where the film ends!

I did XPEL, full front, on my RS7. Can’t notice it at all, except by feel. I also did other parts of the car that would require a full wrap to avoid having a line (like the luggage area, a pillars, and side skirts). Where the car has a body line to follow (side skirts), it’s tough to notice the edge even when you’re right up on it. Elsewhere, if the light hits right, it’s pretty obvious. Personally, I wouldn’t want that on my hood.

The price differential was only a few hundred dollars. Hardly consequential, given the price of the cars we are talking about.

For reference, my prior car was Mythos Black, and I was filling stone chips with a Dr. Color Chip kit virtually every time I detailed it.

    RobertWhite,

Congrats on the new Audi and welcome to the Audizine community.

As others have mentioned, Audi paint can be prone to rock chips so best bet is to add paint protection. As we are proud sponsors of Audizine, we want to make sure to get your paint protected and help out with anything we can along the way. While there are many films on the market, one very important thing to mention is to really find a qualified installer to put on the product. Any paint protection film installation will come down to the installer. So be sure to ask questions, ask to see an example of their work and have a conversation with their team so you can judge their customer service quality.

When it comes to coverage, the 1/3 coverage or "partial front end" type coverage isn't really seen much anymore. Owners are opting in for the full body panels so there are no lines across the hood making for a more seamless and better looking installation. Plus you get more protection by covering the entire body panel. For an A6, we would recommend doing the full front end: full hood, full front fenders, full bumper, side mirrors, and headlights. Other popular areas for a daily driver can be the door cups, luggage area, a-pillars, and sometimes door sills and door edges.

We hope this info helps, let us know if we can answer any other questions.

And a big thank-you to everyone on this thread for the XPEL support.
