Is this possible to do without having to use the USB dongle?

If not, where are folks putting the white dongle so it isn't an eye sore. I'd prefer not to have to plug my phone into the glove box if I can avoid it.

If you use head unit reloaded app, yes you can run android auto wirelessly without the white dongle.

Nevertheless, wireless android auto is very unstable, and lagging.

This. Never really even noticed it until someone mentioned they kept seeing it and I remembered seeing it too.

I’ve finally managed to install everything ... it’s was crammed but my installer did it! It was happiness when it finally booted up; and spent the next 2 hours getting the SIM installed and all other settings customised.

    Left 3 things to do:
    - Android Auto
    - Mirrorlink
    - Getting larger font size. Question : How do I do that??

    My setup:
7” LHT unit (for RHD), with audio isolator, A5 MMI3G+

So I've been using the unit for a while now and it works "well", except for a recurring bug in which the display keeps switching to the MMI interface. It seems to happen at random times, but quite often. I can make it stop by pressing the "car" button and then tapping the screen, so it seems like a firmware bug.

I've uploaded a video of it here.

In a separate issue, I'm a little disappointed with how little integration there is with the MMI. As I understand it there's really no reason why we couldn't make better use of more of the MMI buttons on the center console. I made this thing:

    Notably:

    - A bunch of buttons are unused. They just switch over to the MMI interface which you'll very rarely want to do. It would be much more useful to tie a media player app to the "media" button, for instance. Or a podcast player to the "radio" button or something. Alternatively they could all map to function keys like F13, F14 etc., and then Android could map those to app launchers.

    - The prev/next buttons could easily map to the standard skip back/fwd media keys, allowing basic control of the current media player without using the touch screen.

    - Left/right isn't enough to control most apps, but adding up/down would make a huge difference. And since those buttons aren't used for anything anyway, well...

    - Home and app switcher buttons are obviously useful. Currently there is no way to return to the home screen from e.g. Google Maps without either reaching over to touch the screen or exiting Maps altogether with the "return"/Back button.

It would of course be extra awesome if everything could be configured per application. E.g. when the foreground app is Google Maps the left and right keys aren't useful, so if instead the center encoder was mapped to menu+I and menu+O, you could use the encoder wheel to zoom in and out, similar to how the regular MMI navigation works.

I'd be happy to help with some of this, but the way it seems to be implemented, it involves changes to the MCU firmware. Source code for the Android system image isn't enough.

    Rt11,

Regarding buttons, there is room for improvements. B8 facelift eliminated a few buttons (INFO, SETUP, NAME) and made volume knob do prev and next track. I definitely want those prev and next track working.

    @Rt11,
I passed your suggestion to the devs.

For your bug, please 'diasable' Park Radar Key in Realsun Setting please.

Ok, I'll try that. The problem is intermittent but I'll let you know if it pops up again.

That is, if I don't lose patience and turn Park Radar Key on again because I do use my parking sensors all the time (and not just when reversing.)

If the bug has to do with CANBUS packets being misinterpreted as coming from the parking sensor system, does the system keep a CANBUS log somewhere? Or is it dumped to a a serial interface?

Also noticed today after doing the latest CANBUS update, I don't notice any difference. Park radar still not showing up, also drive lines not following the steering. The last time you mentioned it only comes back after a CANBUS reset (update)

This doesn't seem to be the case?

Sucks not to be able to look at the parking radar and the lines are not a total must but really nice to show off when it works.

Excellent support from Daniel! I've managed to get everything else working except the following due to my lack of experience on Android platform.

    Still working on / in-progress:
    1) Android Auto. I've sideloaded Android Auto on my LG G3 Android phone.
    2) Workaround for lack of ambient light sensor

    fixed / working:
    1) Apple CarPlay via USB dongle
    2) VolumeAdjust - screen_music was at 1 and thus didn't get any audio since Saturday until this evening. However max I could set was a 12 out of 15. It kept reverting to 12. Regardless it was Phew!
    3) EasyConnected
    4) Waze app
    5) Large font
    6) Added Tasker apk and Screen Filter apk; the screen was simply too bright and reflective

Shouldn't have to sideload on your phone, it's easily installed from Google Play Store. Unless you're running something less than Android 4.1 that is ...

The best way to use Android Auto on this unit is to uninstall A.A. from the unit itself, and install Headunit Reloaded (aka HUR). It's in XDA, and the Play Store. Jump into the settings for HUR and turn off "change audio at GPS speeds" since it's a shitty option, and you're good to go. As soon as you plug your phone in to the RSNav via the USB port, the headunit will ask you twice to become the standard for plugging in. And your phone is now cast to the screen. Easy peasy.

Don't waste time/effort trying to do it wirelessly. It lags too much (at least on my HTC 10) and having it powered is the best option anyway.

    Hope it helps!

Hi there! Thanks for the recommendation.

Android Auto is not available in Singapore (yet...), hence the sideload. Will try again using my wife’s Samsung Note 8 and also the HUR method.

thx for pointing that option. Cheers!

Daniel, if this is how you check if the device works. How do you trigger it, there must be a reason within the software/hardware that will bring up the screen.

Its really a pain when driving the screen suddenly pops up. Especially at night, because its a big distraction.

I don't understand what do you mean by it suddenly pops up while driving. Please elaborate more.
I think you are saying that the reverse cam screen is kicking in randomly while driving - that's not what it supposed to do. I meant that's normal when you unlock your car to get in.

First of all, kill your relay powered power scheme and disconnect the camera and see if everything normally works without random popping up.
Second wire your camera positive with brown 12v cam power from our harness.

I think your relay may be at fault and that's why I want you to do it as noted above.
I heard some reports that some relays are problematic with switching.

Also, your CANBUS problem, there must be something that disrupts the canbus communication, and I think it may be the relay.

try it and let me know.

Daniel, I had the exact same problem before connecting the reverse camera and relay. I also tried removing the relay and its still doing it...

The screen pops up if I listen to loud music (as I posted before on the forum), can this bluescreen not be disabled? (Even when you open the door, whats the function of it to check "if its working")

I'm sure I'm not the only one that still has a problem with the reverse lines and parking radar still not working even after the CANBUS update...

If it was getting signal from the rear camera, switching on for some reason there would be an image on the display.

This relates to the same sometimes when you open the car door or boot you get this image as well for a few seconds?
I posted this before??? Not sure what I need to elaborate on?

I have a few questions ror your RSA-08027 for the Q5:

    - I noticed that the trim bezel doesn't include the airbag warning, Will this be updated?
    - I've watched all the videos you have posted about it but I cant seem to see it functioning with the climet control settings, Do you have any videos showing this?
    - How do i use the factory radio settings, does it have its own section or do i need to use the FM/CD function and use the original MMI interface?
    - Does your unit improve the sound quality from the speakers? Does it have capability to add a sub-woofer connection?

do you have any development in the works to pull info from the OBD2? I asked because I'm currently tuned with stage to and would like to see OBD2 Data for Coolant Temp, Intake Air Temp, Exhaust Gas Temp, Throttle Plate, Vehicle Speed, RPM, Shift-light,.

Daniel I spent some time with an Audi engineer looking at the fault codes in VAGCOM VCDS, we followed your "possible solution" as per your Wiki information. The error comes back directly after resetting the fault code in the control module and not through autoscan clearing of codes.

Hi All, i just installed this 7" RSNAV for my LHT. However I have few question would like to ask.

    1. Can I connect more than 2 bluetooth device? So far I only able to connect 1.

    2. I managed to connect my phone, however i can't seem to find the Phone or Dial Pad function.

    3. How to manage individual volume: Example: Bluetooth, System, Media & etc.

    4. Anyone manage to get the FM Radio (Android) works? I can't seem to get it work or it can't get any reception.

    5. Anyone manage to get the sound quality as same as the original with Audi Interface?

    Thanks in advance.

    Included please check my photo.

    - I've watched all the videos you have posted about it but I cant seem to see it functioning with the climet control settings, Do you have any videos showing this?
Higher quality nicer than 2G mmi it works.

    - How do i use the factory radio settings, does it have its own section or do i need to use the FM/CD function and use the original MMI interface?

It works on stock radio and I can get FM radio to works.

    - Does your unit improve the sound quality from the speakers? Does it have capability to add a sub-woofer connection?
It used ami aux input for the Android sound.

do you have any development in the works to pull info from the OBD2? I asked because I'm currently tuned with stage to and would like to see OBD2 Data for Coolant Temp, Intake Air Temp, Exhaust Gas Temp, Throttle Plate, Vehicle Speed, RPM, Shift-light,.
I'm having hard time to pair my bluetooth obdii reader.

Yes you should be able to.

Go-to the realsun settings for volume.

There should be a dialer as an app as well.

Don't think the FM chip is enabled on these units, so no.

Sound quality seems the same to me.

I don't think the latest software is capable of this yet.

Sound related settings are done via VolumeAdjust app. I slide everything towards max volume. Refer to screenshot.
