Look no further than the Continental DWS06, an excellent all season tire and they make it for our Q's with the 21" pkg. I went with 295/40/21 and really glad I upgraded from the summer tires that were on it.

Yep you got it- I'd suggest going to the 295/40 as opposed to the stock 295/35 that the summers come in

    295/45 for 20"
    295/40 for 21"
    295/35 for 22"

Try to stick with the stock overall diameter.
Too big will cost you torque.
Too small will cost you mileage.

Any issues with the 295/40/21 on your Q7? Debating going with this or sticking with the OEM. Did you notice any improvement in the ride? This would be my main reason for going with the taller tire.

No issues whatsoever going up to the 295/40 - I actually think it looks better since the Q7 has such huge wheel wells, it helps fill that space a little better. I think the ride is a bit softer/smoother, but it's not totally noticeable to be honest. I just like the extra protection that the taller sidewall provides and it definitely doesn't have any negative effects, so I'd absolutely recommend it if you're considering a new 21" tire.

I just purchased a CPO 2015 Q7 S-Line Prestige and as part of the CPO findings/Fix they put a new set of the Dunlop Sport Max. I have been through a number of DWS tire sets on my wifes volvo XC90 R-Design V8 and can attest to the Continental tire., Its a great tire for the money and lasts relatively long (longer than other sport SUV tires) and does not make noise as it ages/wears. When these Dunlops see their final days I will more than likely go with the Continental DWS. on my wifes Volvo XC90 I have been able to get between 40-45K miles on a set. We currently have 198K on the volvo XC90. The Q7 is her transition vehicle from the Volvo.

I’m ordering a 21x10 wheel and also wonder how much meat I should go with. Has anyone gone bigger than 295/40/21? I’m downsizing from my 22’s. They’re we’re riding too rough on 285/35/22 rubber bands.

The tire shop I went to (Discount) recommended I don't go any bigger than 295/40 for my 21s. I wanted to go to 305/40 but since that varies so much from stock tire size (295/35) they recommended I not go bigger than 295/40. There seems to be enough room in the wheel wells so I bet you could get away with going a little bigger...I was too chicken to try and tire choices get VERY limited when you move to a 21" wheel. Keep us posted!

thanks for the advice. I’ll likely go with the 295/40/21 in the DWS and keep things sensible. Already ordered my wheels in a 21x10et48.

Is anyone running a large tire on the MKII 20" wheels? OEM size is 285/45 R20 but I feel like the tire choices are pretty limited and none of the options are all that great. I was thinking about jumping up to a 295/45 R20 which is only a .5" increase in width and height so I doubt I'll see any rubbing issues. Another option is doing 285/50 R20 but thats 1.1" taller (same width as OEM), think it could create rubbing problems? Also open to other ideas if anyone has changed the tire sizes on their rims.

Its the wife's vehicle so I'd like to avoid hearing complaints about noises, rubbing, etc.....

295/40 or 295/45? looks like 295/40 are a half inch wider an inch but an inch shorter.

    My bad. . .I have a Q7 and an SQ5. I have 295/40R20 on the SQ5, and 294/45R20 on the Q7.

How does this change with speed correction, if any?
Would the tire be a bit bigger in diameter?

It's only 10mm (0.4") larger, or 1.3%. The speedometer will show 60 MPH when you're actually going 60.8 MPH. Every 10,000 odometer miles, you will have actually gone 10,130 miles.
The short story is that you probably won't even notice it, and it's a lot better than going down in size, which reverses those points.

Thanks for info SQive, it’s good to hear other members who have had success running up a size. Just opens up the options on what tires to run. I’m also giving thought to ditching the run flats for better tires that aren’t run flat. I know there is a risk but it seems manageable.

Side note, you ever take the R8 GT to the track? I’m going with a couple buddies to COTA next month with MVP. One friend has a ‘17 R8 V10 Plus he is taking out for the first time. He’ll be in the same run group as me and my S4....we’ll see how it goes!

Yep. Been signed up since I first heard when they were coming back. I went all three days last year, and I'm doing the same this year. MVPTT is the best outfit I've ever run with, and Mark's a great guy. I'm running intermediate again this year because I'm not pushing this thing at ten/tenths. Just want to have fun, not wreck, and not lose any oil on the track or scuff any paint at COTA. They charge ya' $$!

I'm the same way! Just want to go out there and have some fun. Its my first time at COTA (usually do MSR Houston and Cresson with TDE) and my first time out with MVPTT. I'll be running intermediate as well, not sure which intermediate group. Mark made it seem like there may be a couple of them this year. I'll be up there Friday but only on track Saturday and Sunday. I'll be on the lookout for a suzuka grey R8 GT (pretty sure it will be the only one!!!).
