Any way to make intercooler hoses stay in place?

Driving on the highway today, finally enjoying better stage 3 boost in cooler weather.. suddenly, while accelerating, and boosting just under 20 psi (tune calls for up to 23), hear loud pop, and engine stops.. Trying to start, to at least pool to a safer place, but blowing smoke and unable to move car, maybe just a few feet in the first gear before its flooded and stalls.. As I expected, lower intercooler hose slipped off at intercooler side. I have SRM newer intercoolers, generic no-name silicone hoses ans t-bolt clamps everywhere. Few drops of oil found in the intercooler, BW K04 fully rebuilt recently. What else I can do to make these freaking hoses to stay in place?

I've seen posts recommending to spray on some hair spray (after drying the intake tubes). I guess the hair spray will get a little tacky and hold things in place. I've never tried it, but I remember seeing that suggested - I did a quick search for 'hair spray' and saw the posts below. - Jim

I had this issue with my Volvo V70R doing 26lbs of boost. The charge pipe from the turbo to the Intercooler would pop off every once in awhile, and this is exactly what I did to stop it. Use some really tacky hairspray like Aqua-Net. Spray it on the inside of the tubing and let it set.

I heard about hair spray before. Will try it next week on all turbo hoses. Thank you!

don't try the hair spray, it doesn't work! I tried... OR should I say IT MIGHT work on some hoses that stay cool all the time but not in the 2.7t engine bay. Hair spray become goo in normal engine bay temperatures so the only thing you'll accomplish is extra work to remove it once you determine that it doesn't work at all.

You basically have to crank down the bolts and that's it. I have a mix of mostly factory hoses and some odd bits of silicone ones, where SRM intercooler call for it, and with 36psi of boost I never popped a hose (besides TBB but that's a different subject, 034 to blame here with their way too soft silicone material).

Тhank you Julex for stopping me from doing it, guess I will return that can of hair spray back to store. I had quality clamps and they were tight. Not sure what else to try. I thought of double clamping, but looks like there is not enough space for 3 t-bolt clamps. Maybe urethane window weld? Scratch pipes and intercoolers with sandpaper to make it more rough?

Pipes and hoses need to be oil free where they made contact. So clean them really good, outside of the pipe and inside of the silicone hoses.
I've never used hair spray and I'm using stock clamps at 19psi and never had an issue.
You could use scotchbrite to scuff pipes clean, that might help.

How do the hoses pop off? Is the clamp still on the hose or stays on the hard pipe or even gets lost altogether?

What I am trying to determine is if the clamp gets pushed off the rubber hose when it balloons or the hose plus clamp still it simply pop off?

I have a feeling that you have some rather soft silicone hoses that balloon a lot and cause the material to slowly creep out from under the clamp no matter the torque on the clamp itself. I had this problem with 034 TBB. No matter what torque applied to t-bolt clamp, it would simply push off the clamp in few pulls. I got IE TBB which is waaaaay stiffer and since then rock solid because it doesn't balloon anymore.

Anyway like suggested above, clean, clean, clean before clamping down... And I mean CLAMPING down big time not the 5 lb/ft they recommend. Any sizable t-bolt clamp has M6 bolt on it and it can take some torque. My t-bolts are probably clamped good 20+, the o'le gutentight method. I clamp until the clamp makes a sizable depression in the rubber/silicone with material slightly bulging out on both sides.

Not helpful as far as keeping the hoses on the intercoolers go, but...

...If you ever pop a hose, and the car won't idle (due to unmetered air) simply unplug the MAF connector. The engine will idle as normal, and allow you to drive home, or to a safe place without bucking and kangarooing.

Wish I would think of unplugging MAF, I was panicking a bit due to being just past the bridge from DC to VA, around pentagon, not the best place. Hope I do not need this advice any time soon, but good to know.
My hoses are pretty much standard 4-ply silicone hoses off ebay. They maybe a tad on the soft side, especially when get warm, but not much softer than stock. I do not remember if clamp was still on the hose, more likely on the intecooler side. I was driving in DC earlier same day, and hit pretty big pothole, which could make intecooler to move, and and started to dislodge the hose, but ballooning theory makes sense.
