Replacement Brake Pads - less dust?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi everyone - '16 S3 here. It seems as if the dust my front pads deposit on my wheels is significant. I have 28K miles my car and am considering replacing the brake pads to something that does not cover the wheels in dust in a few days of driving. 034 has some ceramic pads for the front but not the rear. 034 did my springs and rear sway bar and they are great people, so I like their shop. My concern is putting ceramic pads in the front and leaving the rear stock. I do not know if that would create problems in braking. Also, how do the ceramic pads work with my stock rotors? I do not want to start eating rotors or experience squeaking, etc. Thought I would ask and see if anyone has some thoughts and info. Not interested in replacing my brakes for a BBK or anything like that. This is my DD and I want to keep it trouble and issue free. Cheers - Michael

I am in the same boat, I have heard good things about Powerstop Z23 pads on the Facebook group much less dust and very little noise. But I eneded up ordering a set of Brembo ceramic pads from ECS that just arrived. I was planning to have them installed next weekend but now worry they will be very loud when cold on first start up in the mornings. Hopefully someone can chime in with there suggestions. RockAuto.com has the Powerstop pads and they are very reasonably priced.

I used ceramics on my B7 A4 front brakes - noo problems at all. They still dust but the dust is gray so much less noticeable.

Some great feedback so far. Thanks everyone. I really want someone that has their replacement pads in service for quite a bit of daily driving. Noise? dust? damage to rotors? Any change in pedal feel? Thanks all.

Stop tech street pads here too. No complaints, same stopping power and less dust for sure

16' S3. Replaced OEM with EBC red stuff front and rear at 11k KM this May. It's my daily drive. Never squeaking. No damage to rotors. Low dust. More positive feedback from pedal and I feel more confident with the brakes. So far I like it.

Posi Quiets in the front and you’re done. Super low dust, no rotor wear, made by same group as StopTech—stopping power is lower but similar to stock. Good for street use. I wouldn’t worry about front/rear problems or brake balance issues. I run Fedodos currently on a BBK for track on my Golf R, but these are the jam for street. Pretty cheap too, $60-70 bucks IIRC.

Changed out my pads back in December. I'd say roughly 10K+ miles of driving since then and a few autocrosses in between. Has a little more initial bite, but that's about it. Dust is considerably less.

OK, I also heard from Epic Friction re their pads. Found them in my Excellence magazine. They have pads too. I just need to sit down and figure out which set I am going to go with.

Brembo Ceramics should be quiet and have the low/light colored dust that helps the wheels look cleaner longer, all while giving plenty of braking bite/force. They are actually one of the pads I came in here to suggest lol.

+1 for Hawk HPS. Brake dust is similar to stock, but performance is far better. I've also had their street/track pads, HP Plus (on a street car), but those do produce quite a bit more dust and need to be warmed up for maximum performance. On a cold morning, they don't really stop very well for street use, but it's ok if you get used to the variability.

P.S. what electronic tool do you use to retract the electronic parking brake?
