    Headlights won't turn off ???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2004 A4 quattro. I'm having an issue with my headlights not turning off when the light switch in in the off position.

Lights respond correctly for all other light options selected (parking light, auto). I have tried a new dash light switch, with no improvement.

I'm thinking there must be a control module somewhere that needs to be replaced. Does anyone know the part number and the location of the module? Or if anyone has additional direction that I might try to resolve this issue.

I have HID light with auto level option.

    Regards,
    Mark

BCM Body Control Module 8E0907279E..latest is F

HID may be different PN...but I doubt it.

    under DS dash.
two bolts..will need to unmount fuse panel to get at one of the bolts.

I'd have someone check it with VCDS for you to see if you are getting codes for it..

I don't know whether VCDS lite will see faults from this module or not..

You will need to buy a used BCM on ebay and have the ecm accept the "new" BCM by using VCDS

Scan the control module with VCDS to see what fault(s) are stored. When my switch was going bad, there was a stored code for the issue.

I had this issue when I replaced my cylinder head because the battery was disconnected for too long. More than likely, your car is not seeing the daylight sensor so it is always keeping the lights on because it cannot "see" the light. You need to recode your light sensor and it should resolve the issue.

Hi, tried to reply in detail but laptop keeps freezing. Briefly then... Test to ascertain it IS the module. If it is then Shurur is spot on. Try to get the correct number from your 'friendly dealership parts man'. Lights, wipers are governed by the 'on board supply control unit' J519. Don't be confused by talk of the 'comfort control' module, that's something else. Just going through this so check my thread 'Which module does what?' about 15 below, Thanks to guys on here, I'm almost there. Just orderd a module on Ebay for £30, £339+++ via dealer. Good Luck.

Sorry to butt in Mark but you may find it useful. Hi Shurur...Having the same probs with connectors that you had. I must have girlie fingers. Before I lose it and break something, could you explain in detail how to unclip them? I couldn't access your photo. Much appreciated.

You just get a screw driver that is wide enough to push in under that connector from under the wires.
You push into the back of the connector (under the wires and riding up on that center tab/ramp to push it down) and pry-up-a-hair while pulling the connect forward with your other hand.

Push/pry-up-a-hair with screw driver at the back wire side.
Pull with your other hand from the front side of the module.
It pulls toward the back of the car, or front of the module.

It would better to leave the BCM mounted when you do this; so you don't have to hold it while you take those connectors off.

It will feel like you are going to break something...

Thanks my friend. Not too sure about your 'pry-up-a-hair' jargon, we've got a few sayings like that. Anyway, I'd better sort it before the 'new' bit arrives. Fed up with being marooned at home....

Just fitted s/h module, ebay £30. All vital functions OK, Yahoo! Only glitch is rear wiper on constantly but at least it's driveable. I haven't had to code it, perhaps that will sort out the wiper issue?
Sorry to Hi-jack the thread but it's related and may be useful. Thanks all.

Interesting that you didn't have to recode/learn/match....it with ECM.
Maybe the ECM can do some kind of discovery routine over a time...?

I think I'll drop some coin on a used BCM myself now..

I don't think the thread has been hijacked, as info as been consolidated.

    Thanks for the follow up.

Just occurred to me....the water must have got into the CECM via the screws on one face. As far as I know, I've stopped the leak but just in case, I think I'll put a blob of silicon on each screw while I can still access it.

Do you have vag com? Typically this will happen if the battery has been disconnected for a minute. The CCm just needs to be coded back to it's original coding then it should go back to normal. Try that before you start prying at shit. In Vag select central conv either 35 or 9 I believe, then coding and then it should present a bubble that gives insight to the correct coding for your car.
