Custom color

For those of you who have ordered a RS3, is there anyone who tried for a custom paint color?

If I end up going with the RS3, I would like to get a custom color but I am not sure what kinda of options there are for custom colors.

When you build a RS3 on the Audi website you can choose Audi Exclusive Special Paint Color for $3900, but does anyone know what that means?

The color I'm interested in is a Porsche color.

There are exclusive paint colors which are an extended palette of about 60 colors. Or you can do what is called paint to sample which is how you’d get the Porsche color you want. Paint to sample is a more expensive option than Exclusive paint.

I have a Nardo RS3 now but FANTASIZED over doing the sedan in Audi Riviera Blue... closet to Porsche Mexico Blue. Love..

There’s no work involved, paint to sample is a $4900 option and any dealer can order it. Just be prepared to wait a while for delivery.

Riviera Blue is a "standard" exclusive color. I was going to order an RS3 in that color, cost was $3900. A Nardo Gray became available which was my second choice and I decided not to wait on the custom order and bought it.

That's good to hear. I don't think the guy i spoke to last time was knowledgeable on exclusive colors because he has no idea. At one point he told me they weren't available on the RS3. I will be sure to speak with someone higher up next month when I visit.

Time is something I have plenty of. I'm 2 years out from my SRT lease being up.....

. I just really enjoying planning ahead and making my "to do" list for the car I don't even own yet.

I plan to start the ordering process a year out to make sure I get an allocation in a timely fashion.

That's even better news! I had zero idea that was the case. That sways my decision towards the RS3 even more!

In that picture i posted of 3 Porsches you can kinda see the difference. But I don't know the exact differences. The 3 colors are labeled in the caption of the picture.

I wish there was a place we could look online to see them, but the only thing I found was the German version of "build your own" and it wasn't easy to use or understand.

Maybe someone around here knows something we don't.

I don't see Mexico, Riviera or Miami blue on there so it must be the paint to sample like jwill mentioned for a little more.

They charged me for Audi Exclusive, so $3900. I did not do the sample since I have a friend with a Porsche with that exact color.

What exactly does "paint to sample" mean? I understood this as the process of getting a color that they don't normally do and that's not listed on their website or in their exclusive catalogue.

From what you said, it sounds like if you know the exact color you want....i.e. Riviera blue or Mexico blue, then you aren't doing "paint to sample", you are doing an exclusive color, even if it's not listed. What makes paint to sample an additional $1000?

Is that correct?

While I don’t know it to be an absolute fact I was given the impression when I ordered my car that pretty much any VW group color (excluding Lamborghini & Bugatti) can be requested as an “Audi Exclusive” color for the $3,900 price.

“Paint to sample” being exactly that. You provide a sample or possibly a description/name/code from another source and they will work with you to replicate the desired color. $4,900. Colors like McLaren Volcano Red have been denied so it’s not open to just anything you want.

There is a guy ordering a TTRS from the same dealership that I am getting my RS3 from. He did paint to sample because he is ordering Harley Orange.

I have never been to that dealership. It has always been Audi Atlanta or Audi North Atlanta or me. I would recommend you talk to Travis Shapira at Audi Atlanta if you want to be taken care of.

Thanks for the clarification. I have a better understanding now.

My top choices are Riviera, Mexico, Voodoo or Miami blue. So I'm hoping those will all be exclusive @ 3900. Wait time is not an issue for me.

I ordered an Audi exclusive color. Somehow the order got screwed up at the dealership, and I ended up waiting 13 months for my car. It was $3900 extra.

Mystic Blue Pearl. It’s a lot more purple than in the sample.
