How about Mobil 1 FS European formula 0-40?

It is objectively the best oil you can put in your car that meets 502 spec

    https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/201...-test-ranking/

I'm switching to it on my next oil change

I first used Liquimoly then moved to Castrol GTX.

Pennzoil platinum euro 0W40 for the colder climates and 5W40 for the summer. Best base oil and additive package there is. They even guarantee a mileage increase and I have seen it first hand with my cars.

In the past I have used M1 and Castrol edge mostly.

This is very interesting. I was about to order a case of Liqui Moly Leichtlauf, but it seems there are better alternatives.

That blog is insufferable. The information is poorly presented and his writing style is dripping with hubris.

That said, any VAG approved oil should suit you just fine. I run Castrol GTX 0W40. A bonus is the price point. $25 for a 5 qt jug.

That blog post is definitely terribly organized, but interesting if you spend some time on it.

Anyways every time a thread pops up about oil: Mobil 1 rebate is going on again until end of Oct.

Thanks for the heads up about the rebate! They don't list WalMart on the list of participating retailers but they still sent me a rebate last time when I used a Walmart receipt.

I mostly agree with your comments Homer but when you finally sort through all the verbosity and get to the test results I believe there is some very useful data here. Additionally, he does dispel a number of myths that are prevalent on the AZ such as the use of ZDDP additives and the use of Liqui Moly (never been impressed with it). That said, for the average driver I really doubt there is a significant difference in performance between the premium synthetic oils. I run 5W-40 Amsoil European formula but would have no qualms running Mobile 1 0W-40 European Formula.

I paid that for PP...half off sale or something like that. Check the flyers from your parts shops often and stock up when your stuff is on sale.

Liq Moly or Castrol for B7 A4 2.0t Quattro

I am a fan of T6 rotella. It's reasonably priced, and is designed for hot ass Diesel engines/turbos. I have used both M1 0W-40 and Shell T6 5W-40. And they're both great oils. Btw oils on the spec list are only there because they paid to be. They're great oils, but realistically it's just another oil.

The best oil for your vehicle is a VW/Audi approved oil that's not in your motor for more than 5k miles.

I've ran everything from Liqui Moly to Motul and everything in between... what I currently have in my car is this.

It's oil. Use the right weight and the brand you can most readily get that is VW/Audi approved.

Audi changed my oil from 0-5k miles and used Castrol. I have used Mobil 1 0-40 from 50k to 274k. I am at 274k miles and getting read to change the oil again with Mobil 1. Never burns oil, never get the low oil alert when stretching 5k mile intervals. Never had cam follower issues. And still in the stock cam and no carbon cleanings yet. I will keep using Mobil 1.

Did you check your cam/follower lately ? Just sayin... I thought mine should be great, car was going great, but follower was gone, cam was scratched, and pump was polished. My dog was also sick all of a sudden and my cat died.

Costs a fortune thought (at least in Australia), take a lot of oil changes to make up for any fuel savings.

I noticed a change after the switch to PP-first change. The fuel economy average went below 10 L/100 km for the first time since I have owned the car over 5 years. That's for a Volvo Ford 3.0 inline 6 turbo.

I reckon the oil pays for itself. Right after the second oil change the average dropped a point.

The science behind the base oil makes it untypical. Youtube pennzoil pure plus.

Changed the first follower at 100k and it was still fine. Just changed the last follower 25k miles ago and it was fine as well.

High mileage as well except I follow the 10k oil change interval. No oil burn, cam follower changed every 50k. Castrol or mobil.

Ive always done castrol or lubri molly, however my last change i used MOTUL, and damn the 2.0t seems to love this stuff.

I will probably use motul from now on... Car seems to be more happy overall with it.

Also use motul for the last trans / diff fluid swaps.

Shell makes Pennzoil products too. If you like Rotella, I think platinum would exceed your expectations.
