Best tire for heavy rain driving

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi, I have been in the market for new tires and was wondering what the best type of tire is for heavy rain driving and some mild snow driving (~20mph max speed). I read that dedicated winter tires suffer in heavy rain driving so I am hesitant to get them and was wondering if there was another type that fits my needs better.

    Thanks!

A lot of guys don't like all seasons but I am in Denver where we don't get much snow but I head to the mountains a lot. I really dig the Conti extreme dws. Really decent in snow/rain and summer. Ran them on the Cayenne Turbo, S4 and now my A4.

+1 for the conti extremes, never had any issue in rain, and not loud on the highway when its dry. I run dedicated winters then all season for the other 3 seasons.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Been running the Sumitomo P02's for the last 12 months. Got a solid mix of snow (up to 6 inches) and plenty of rain and havent had them skip a beat. I don't think they will be long lasting with the way I like to drive, but I would guess I should get about 30k out of them

The only tires you'll probably find that can do both heavy rain and snow are likely all seasons. I doubt any winter tires are really made for rain, at least heavy rain.

I've had both the Michelin AS3 and now AS3+ tires. I've had no complaints with them in the little snow driving I've done, and they've also done fine in the rain.

Two sets, AS3 and now AS3+ have gotten me through snow over my front bumper on my B5 S4 and handle dry like a summer tire, with no drama on any weather in between. First set wore evenly to wear bars on all four corners without any cupping or excessive edge wear. Have seen DWS get cupping edge wear in low aspect ratio sizes before, but awesome tire on aspect ratios 45 and above. DWS06s on our 2002 A4 with sport suspension in stock size have done beautifully for the last 10K miles...

BTW 40K plus on that first set of AS3s before they hit the wear bars and I'm not driving easy.

I just put a set of DWS06's on my car. $500 shipped to my door less a $70 rebate. So far I really like then, but too new to provide any longer-mileage feedback.

My past snow tires regardless of brand have always seemed to perform just as good if not better than all seasons in heavy rain. That said, with tires, you get exactly what you pay for.

Another +1 for Conti EC DWS06. I live in Colorado and run these as my fall/winter tires. Nothing I’ve had before compares to the Conti’s versatility; they are exceptional in the rain and snow and great in the dry as well. I work at a tire shop and this tire is by far our most popular A/S for high performance cars. I have zero complaints and haven’t heard any from the numerous people I know who also run them.

I ran 2 sets over 8 seasons with the Conti Extreme Contact DW (not DWS) and always felt planted even the worst of rain storms. Likewise the last season and a half on the Michelin Pilot Super Sports have also felt solid in heavy rain.

Conti Contact turned my B6 A4 3.0 Quattro into a tank in the rain and snow. And when its dry and I'm at highway speeds they are quiet and grip really well. I had Kuhmo Xacta 7 for $30 less per tire for about 2 cycles and never liked them. Im never buying anything else for my cars.

Don’t know if they sell them in the states but I run Bridgestone Potenza RE003 and they are amazing in the wet, supposed to be a direct competitor to pilot sports.
