    P2187 along with P0441 fault code...

    Hi All, my A4 (2005model) recently got check engine light on, then I went to a local garage and was told to change MAF sensor. Few days after they changed it, the engine light turned on again...I feel very frustrated...then I bought a Xtool Vag401 tool and checked the car myself and got below 2 codes :
    P2187 - System Too Lean at Idle (Bank 1)
    P0441 - Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow

    Any bro have similar experience or ideas how I can get rid of them ? And could I continue driving before I get it fixed? Many thanks!

    Replace N80 valve (they're cheap and easy DIY) and use a can of carby or brake cleaner and spray carefully near all areas that could be leaking in the vaccum lines and anywhere between the MAF to the throttle body. Check PCV, or replace (they do need replacing quite regularly. If you get excessive vacuum on when removing the oil cap with the engine on I believe your PCV is probably ok, however this is not a fool-proof test.

    The reason its running too lean is probably due to un-metered air entering the intake thus preventing the ECU from calculating the amount of air entering. Air/Fuel ratio is out.
    The evap purge issue is your N80.

    Replacing the PCV, N80 and checking for vacuum leaks will sort this.

    Looking back at your post, no, try not to drive it like this. If you must, stay off boost.
    The garage that you went to probably left a loose clamp on a intake piping. Double check.

    As Oke said. Most likely the N80 valve is faulty. Remove it and see if you can blow through it (you should not be able to). That would account for both codes.

    Thanks Oke, Wannabi! Very helpful information. Yesterday I cleared the fault code and then drive a while to get the engine light in order to confirm the fault code. Interestingly this time only P0441 detected. Can I assume P0441 trigger or correlate to P2187? And the strategy remains the same i.e. Change the N80?

    Yes. Means the purge (n80) valve is stuck open. This will cause the P2187 to trip soon.

    Could a bad pcv cause the p0441 ? I’ve changed the n80 and also gas cap seal and can’t see any visible signs of vac leaks,
