These can be retrofitted. I've worked with VCP (Vag Can Pro) to get the proper parameters setup for North American owners to retrofit the European taillights. Additional wiring is required, but you get the added bonus of a discrete turn signal (no blinking brake light) and a rear fog light.

A complete kit with the taillights, headlight switch and wiring components is available here:

    Taillight Package | A5, S5, RS5 LED Blackline

Shortly I will be fitting the standard red/dark European taillights to the new S5 Sportback that is here and documenting the process. VCP is required to set the proper taillight parameters as VCDS, OBD11 and others do not have this ability yet.

I will be adding VCP as an option to purchase with all of the B9 taillight kits which do require it for installation.

If you or anyone else has questions on these kits or other items don't hesitate to PM or email: [email protected]

Are Euro tail lights required for the discrete flashing or can you do it with coding alone?

The European lights are required. The North American lights don't have the ability to have functions separated. Audi uses a strategy on almost every new model I've worked with to combine the brake and turn physically inside of the taillight and then they cycle the dynamic signal to obtain the sweeping effect with the brake light also blinking normally. Sadly a bit frustrating, even in the R8 they do this despite the signals from the BCM2 being separate.
