Stupid exhaust tips - blast pipes

I think this may have started out on the West Coast, but now I'm starting to see it here in the northeast. I saw a BMW 3-series coupe, followed by an A5, both with these ridiculous looking pipes pointed up in the air. I can only assume the two guys were friends. Maybe I'm getting old, but this crap is beyond stupid...

We started to see this silly shit about 2 summers ago out here, but thankfully the cops put a stop to it pretty fast. I haven't seen a car with this stupid shit since a few months after the fad here started.

Yeah, absolutely. But here in the U.S. I believe it was a west coast thing that somehow migrated across the states and ended up on the east coast.

I know a lot of guys that run at Laguna Seca will run a more subtle (if you can call it that) version to avoid being black flagged for being too loud since it directs the exhaust noise away from the paddock, but I agree this looks really silly on a road car.
