    Audi vs Porsche parts price

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Another example of VAG's parts pricing strategy. I was looking for some bolts online and came across the part number I need but at a Porsche dealer. They were the same bolts for the same application but at 50% of the Audi price. You may recall others found the expensive door lock actuator with similar results....same part but much lower at the Porsche dealer. The two dealers have the same ownership. One would think it would be the reverse, with Porsche parts more expensive.
Looks like it's worthwhile checking for common parts.

Experienced the same thing when the power steering hose on my daughter's Passat disintegrated. VW wanted double the price of the same hose as opposed to the Audi dealer.

I have even gone as far as to use mercedes parts to replace certain audi parts that were exactly the same thing, just audi had like a 300% markup on them. lol

I think the porsche and audi part share the same part number, there is also a difference depending on the production year. Ill have to try to locate my receipts.

Are you positive about this? because my car (MY 09 A4 B8 2.0T) came with a 06H133201AF intake manifold, and in 2014-09-01 it was replaced with 06H133201AN.

Id have to check if they finally issued thst new design for the longitudinal engines, but your right, its the A3 manifold. Its still a 2.0T manifold, it doesn't have the mount for the purge solenoid in the correct location and the flaps cover both sets of valves, not just one like the originals. Other then those two differences it works just fine and you get the added bonus of the fully redesigned manifold. I installed one last spring, when i get off my phone ill post some pics up of how it looks.

That is exactly what it is. My guess...

VW - volume brand with discounted parts and service, trying to compete with Honda/Toyota.
Porsche - gouge buyers on car cost via ridiculous opt pkgs, keep maint costs lower compared to other 'near exotic' brands.
Audi - stuck in the middle. they're either going to kill you on parts/service cost or have you rationalize buying a new one with warranty.

AoA also has other weird pricing rules. For example my local dealer has an online parts store, selling OEM parts at very fair and competitive internet prices, but you have to buy it online. If you try to pick it up at the parts counter, its a sky high price, but if they put it in a box and ship it across town you get the discounted price.

Here's the pictures of it installed, you can see the difference in the position of the mount for the purge solenoid. Other then that it is identical in almost every way that matters. Whole reason I wanted to use that was because of the newly designed arm system for the flappers. I was pissed when i realized this new revision had not been issued for the longitudinal versions.

Also, to add to that, I did later go back, remove that hard plastic hose to the left of the purge solenoid there and use a high quality reinforced rubber vacuum line with clamps and ziptied that up so that I didnt have to worry about the line cracking from some movement.

The AN is the latest revision for the B8. Not sure if it's revised or not? there are some pics on ECSTuning.com: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...d/06h133201an/

Are you saying 06J133201BH can be used without any modifications on longitudinal engines? would be awesome, it's $60 cheaper in Europe :D

I am, and it has, lol i drive around with it every day. Far as i can tell from the pictures the AN revision still has the original style arm. Amazing how its 60 dollars cheaper and for all intents and purposes is the same exact manifold just for the cheaper transverse engine cars. Almost as if...they increase the price of the parts in proportion to the value of the car.....shocking. lol

I see it costs $166.90 vs $340.41 for the longitudinal one in the US - wow.

You're right about the new longitudinal one having the same old style arm and also about the flaps being different. The "problem" is that the flaps were different to begin with with the transverse ones covering both sets of valves, here's a pic of an old transverse one from the HumbleMechanic video:

    Revised longitudinal (06H133201AN):

    Revised transverse (06J133201BH):

I'm itching to get the BH, just triple checking - everything is plug and play and there's no driving/pulling/mpg difference because of the flaps?

Nope, if anything i saw a slight bump in mpg below a certain RPM because of the flap design. In reality its a very minor difference in the way the air enters the port. Although I did find it odd that they would make this different because the 2.0TSI engines are supposed to be the same across the board. I guess this is part of how they bump the mpg on some of the smaller models? I am not really sure.

I Owned a Porsche and an Audi up till about 2 months ago.... YES Porsche parts are about 3x as expensive as Audi parts when you actually own one and do the same basic maintenance. Maybe small items here and there (which you are referring to) are different in price, but trust me from owning both at the same time. The purchase price of a porsche out of warranty isn't the issue, the maintenance cost is.
