so for those who are living in states with the required use of front license plates, this can be a great way to have the plate on when parked, and easily removed when driving/photoshoots/etc. I cant take the credit though, as someone on the s3 section did this first, and I just pretty much mimic'ed his setup, so credits to him!
this setup is mostly useful for honey comb grilles, and since a lot of members here have replica RS grilles, or FL s5's with the bottom honey comb grille, this will work very well
ok so here are some materials that you should have:
- license plate frame of your choice ( optional )
- soft felt
- thick, 3m double face tape ( thicker the better, it will be used as cushion)
- 2 toggle bolts ( depending on your application, choose the correct length. RS grilles only need short ones, fog grilles will require longer )
- 2 washers to go with the toggle bolts
- black tape ( can use black gorilla tape, electrical tape, etc )
- black spray paint ( optional, if you want to spray the toggle bolts )
ok so lets start!
prep:
-clean the license plate
-if you wish, spray the toggle bolts black as it looks the best and remains stealth
license:
1) cut the felt so its the size of the license plate. try to make it as exact as possible
2) with the double face 3m tape, tape all over the back of the license plate. be careful not to cover up the screw holes on top and bottom.
3) attach the felt on to the back of the plate pressing the felt against the 3m tape so it sticks together. you can also use glue, but the point of the thick 3m tape is so it adds cushion behind the felt. use both if necessary ( I did )
4) if the felt is covering the holes, just poke the holes through since you will need to push the toggle bolts through it
assembly:
prep:
-if you are using a plate frame, it may be a good idea to use double face tape on the bottom if the frame does not require screws on the bottom
5) regardless if you have the frame or not, at this point you are going to put the toggle bolt through the plate. first thing is to unscrew the toggle itself so only the screw is on. push the screw through the front
6) from the underside of the plate, screw on the washer all the way down. this will ensure the bolt will not move.
7) once the bolt is screwed onto the bump and is not moving, screw the toggle back on. you are going to put it in the direction where it closes away from the bumper ( i.e. when u pinch, it will fold away from the plate, towards the car )
at this point you are pretty much done. you can add some tape around the back of the plate to provide more cushion in case it touches any part of your car. you can also use the black electrical tape to cover up the silver colored parts of the bolts so its more stealth, unless you already sprayed it. but either way, as of right now, you can modify it however you see fit to make it work perfectly on your car. results should be similar to this:

now to attach the plate:
1) line up the toggle with the holes you want to use on your grille
2) pinch it so u can put it through the hole
3) listen to the click of satisfaction. VOILA. you're done
4) to take off the plate, just pull
note:
for my specific application, I needed longer bolts since the fog grille is not flush with the bumper. if you are using it on your center grille, short toggle bolts are fine
