    Best Tune for the S4?

Hi all. My wife just picked up her Audi B8.5 S4. I know APR is usually the top tuner in the market from what I've heard for Audi/VW. Are there any other tunes the community would recommend or is APR the way to go? Def plan on upgrading her super charger pulley and crank pulley.

I would look to see who can provide local support, however there are a couple of flash at home options. You have APR, GIAC, 034, Unitronic, Revo & EPL as your choices. They may feel different, but you will be pleased with either one.

    Upgrade cooling!

There are a couple APR Dealers in your area. And there are quite a few threads that will answer your questions. Unitronic, Revo, EPL, APR, United Motorsport, Chipewerke, 034, etc...

I would do a few other things before I went to DP. Upgrade "her" cooling unit.

I echo and stress this sentiment as well.. don't go DP unless you plan to upgrade your cooling

    My suggestion

Enjoy the car stock for a while... there's nothing wrong with that. You determine what a "while" is - I didn't stage 1 my car for a year.
Stage 1 tune is potent as is and really wakes it up above 5k RPM. This is the least obtrusive upgrade. Software and you're done.
Stage 2 is more than enough for most but at this stage you will want some supporting hardware. (see below)
Dual pulley will be probably overkill for her (just an assumption).

Anything more than stage 1 you'll want to do an upgraded intake and cooling and probably exhaust. Do the math with the tune and install and you're easily in the 7k+ ballpark. Up to you to decide if the wife needs all that. You don't HAVE to do exhaust but it's recommended and you might as well if you're doing the rest.

I'm assuming it's an Auto that you got. If so then you'll want to also do the TCU tune if you're doing the stage 2 or Dual Pulley... If it's a manual then you'll probably be needing a clutch on the DP set up. Factor those costs in as well.

If DSG you will want DP / Upgrade Heat Exchange / TCU tune - keep in mind all the additional boost/heat you will eventually burn out your catalytic converters (factor as future cost + labor 8 to 10 hrs if DSG)

if we are telling this man to go straight dual pulley let's also tell him that he is going to have to replace his cats and the car could sound drastically different to the point his wife may not enjoy it. Dual pulley w/o cooling is fine for 2 pulls and then the car limits to ~ stage 2ish levels so yes you want to upgrade the heat exchanger but also go w/ a tune that has safe guards in place which appears to be all of them.

I just did the Stage 1 EPL tune today and it was a no-brainer to do this at home. Clear instructions, very simple, and after a one hour drive on some river bottom roads, I can definitely say that the engine feels much more alive, especially in the upper RPMs.
