    Automatic Lights feature

I have a 2010 Audi A4 premium. My light switch has the auto option but it does nothing. I have read through the forums and I think there is a light sensor in the rear view mirror on some models but my model only has a basic mirror. I have even checked inside the interior roof light counsel to see if there may be connections for a optional rear view mirror with the sensor but no luck.

All I want is for the auto function to work.

When in "auto", your lights arent on?
Auto works in my 2010. It simply turns the headlights on when its dark and turns the LED strip on when it's not dark.

I thought the sensors were located in the headlamps?

Were you the original owner of your A4? The AUTO position on the light switch uses a light sensor in the rearview mirror. If you are not the original owner, the rearview mirror may have been replaced with a regular RVM to save money.

Yeah you're definitely lacking the hardware piece (at least) to get that functionality working. Need to install the appropriate mirror, then probably refresh the coding... assuming this car was originally equipped for it to begin with.

Thought it was part of the automatic wipers package which is why you cant have it unless you have the rain sensor.

You'd need a rain sensor with appropriate wiring loom to auto switch then you'd need a new trim piece to cover the wiring aswell as a new windshield to have the right lines to go around the sensor

When in auto the lights do not come on when it gets dark.

I am not the original owner. You may be right but I would assume that there would be extra wires in the ceiling panel but there is none.

Seems like it may not be worth it.

Depends. How's your insurance deductible on broken windshield? Mines 100 so if yours is the same or better it might be time to move your car near the baseball field. I'm kidding of course

You would need a harness to go from headlight switch to route all the way up to upper dome console then the trim to attach to winshield and then have a window installed install new winshield and from what I heard you just give him the mirror and trim pieces and he makes it all stick right. After that you would need minor coding done with vagcom to get the car to acknowledge the rain sensor. On a plus note you get auto wipers aswell but not sure on coding for that. This is in the books for me when I do a headliner conversion
