    Audi OEM fuel filter?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Having heard of problems of not using an OEM fuel filter on the A4 B6, I ordered one listed as "OEM" from a vendor, but does this look OEM? There's no part number anywhere, the only markings are on the ends as seen in the pictures. Has anyone purchased one from a dealer recently and seen if there's part numbers marked?

It's probably a cheap Chinese knock off. I did the same thing the other day on eBay and it said the item was located in California. I then saw on the shipping details it was coming from China, lol. The seller actually wrote to me in broken English, apologized, and then gave me a full refund.

I then ordered a Kayser fuel filter instead.

I bought a Mahle about two years ago and I think the regulator in it has failed, so even decent brands might not be good.

People have used Mann for oil filters. I don't know the difference between what OE and OEM means.

But I heard that for fuel filters, Mann sources from China and should be avoided.
I think the company known to make them is either KYG or Kayser, or both. That is probably the brand written on it, if you buy it at a dealership, but it costs more.

Looks like you have a late model year with the regulator inside the filter (more expensive, 4 prongs).

This looks similar, and so do the end cap colors, but I don't know.

I heard that sometimes, in general, you can get the same part cheaper but it will arrive with the Audi logo ground off. I'm not sure why they do this, if it's a copyright thing or something.
That is how it looked with a brake light switch I got a while ago.
And maybe other parts as well, such as headlight connectors.

OEM is a company. Most places will list an item as "Genuine Audi" if it is. Kayser is the original Audi manufacturer for our fuel filter/regulator.

Make god damn sure its an OEM unit. I bought a cheap filter and it didn't flow properly causing my fuel pump hose to burst. My car shut off in the middle of a busy intersection.

Theres no reason to save a couple bucks and go aftermarket. A bad filter can be dangerous as I have learned.

Just my advice, but lease take it. Don't end up like me.

That is an OE filter either made by Kayser or KYG. You're safe.

From my experience the Genuine Audi, Kayser and KYG filters come with a blue hex cap on the inlet to the motor, and yellow caps for the other connections; aftermarket filters usually had black caps and/or nothing in their package. I vegly remember a difference in the weld shown on the circumference of the filter. too.

Was your fuel pump still the original? I'm asking because I had the same exact thing happen to me (in parking lot - 20 mins after putting new pump in), which I attributed to a crappy plastic hose from the new pump I got. But, I checked my fuel pressure when cranking it was at or over 100PSI, so I'm looking at a faulty fuel filter/regulator or return from filter to tank now. The issue though is my filter was Mahle replace <= 2 years ago and I don't believe they make junk parts...right?

Mahle is a good brand and make quality products, however I do not believe they have been an OE supplier for B6 fuel filters. I would suspect the internal FPR being the culprit; Mann and Mahle have a Chinese COO and I would not trust their fuel filters on our vehicles due to concerns regarding internal FPR quality.

That was my problem, I put a Kayser on and it appears to be all fixed. I concur stay away from their fuel filters.

The first fuel pump was original. I then ordered the filter off of Amazon thinking they're all pretty much the same. Just for routine maintenance. Then the clear hose on my original fuel pump burst open leaving me stranded.

Thinking it was a problem with the pump, I got a new one and it burst again right in the exact same spot after 10 minutes of driving. Thats how I knew it was the new filter or FPR valve inside the new filter.

If the clear ribbed hose burst on your pump, check upstream to see if there are any blockages. A clogged filter could cause this, as well as a faulty unit like I dealt with.
