B8.5 S4 GIAC tune VS APR

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys I'm new to the forums and I'm sure this has been hit on before.

I'm getting a b8.5 s4 that possibly has a tune already and I have seen quite a few s4s with the GIAC tune. I personally have only dealt with APR tunes with the b8.5 s4 and Im wondering how they compare and the reliability. This is going to be my DD and I wanna make sure if I get a GIAC tune it won't go crazy on me or no issues have been brought up.

If you guys can point me in the right place to read up please do

    Thanks everyone

I had a GIAC tune on my old S4 for 3 years, rock solid with no issues.

I've no experience with anything but APR. Have had mine tuned from Stage 1 then 2 now 2/dual pulley and the TCU tune has also been done since the beginning and have had zero issues. The only issues I have heard about are with the Ultracharger unit and tune. I went APR as for years and years I've had buddies with their tunes on everything from Audi's to VW's with nothing but success thus I tried them out. They seem like a very solid engineering based tuning company.

Both are really solid options for you. Great choices to go with.

The only small differences I can think of is that with APR and the B8.5 you will have no program switching option to go from different octanes. Thats really only relevant if you were going to use race gas or go from 91 to 93 locales often. With GIAC you get a nifty program switcher dongle and can toggle between octane level of tunes.

The other small difference is that at least one of the GIAC stage 2 files for B8.5 shows some boost bleed in the low to mid rpm. Its not going to make your car much slower at all in the 1/4 mile. Its a small issue in the grand scheme but if you're hunting for differences, its one of them. This is not present in their DP file so if you were going that route it would be a non issue.

Sounds great thanks for this! Like I said I'm sure they were close I wanted to make sure there were no reliability issues with GIAC

As far as reliability goes one is no better than the other.
I've been running the GIAC tune for years (4?) with no issues.
I'd chose based on dealerships in your area.

Most people suggest jumping right to Stage 2, but I like doing it in increments. I would start with Stage 1 below:

Well, I just went AWE tuning/GIAC stage 2 last week, straight from stock.

And, coupled with the DGS tune, it's fucking amazing. I don't think I would go incremental as you get a TD1 from dealers regardless.

Might as well fucking go big; pulls hard and it's 105 degrees in Portland right now..... cant even wait to see what it's like in cooler weather.

Think of Revo like the quiet girl at the bar who ends up being a freak in bed. She doesn't need to put on a big show for attention, but knows exactly how to take you for a ride.

I dont know though. This Revo girl might be a little too freaky for me. She has a history of unprotected sex (reduced knock protections) and no you have to stack on her in order to get her to perform (stack a CW on it in order to keep the bypass valve closed).

    ....

Sorry, I couldnt resist. No offense intended to Revo.

Revo is like a hot girl who has an ugly Mom. You're concerned she'll look like her Mom at 40, so you dump her now.

This conversation is seriously awesome. Haha
Arguing with an engineer is a lot like wrestling with a pig... After a couple hours you realize the pig likes it.
