How often do I change oil?

    2009 A4 B8 3.2L V6 quattro

I've been changing it every 8k KM. Using 6.4L of Castrol Edge Synthetic 5W-40. How often do you guys change your oil?

Sorry if this has been asked, I did a quick search and there were 500 results.. I went through 3 pages and didn't find my answer.

This link has varied responses... and I'm not sure if the 3.2L engine makes a difference.

I used to do every 5k miles, but it would take me 1.5 yrs to put 5k miles on my car. I don't drive, just enjoy the look of my car. LOL

The old oil was very dark when changed at 5k miles. Now I feel my car runs better with more frequent oil change.

Someone said this somewhere on the forums, forgot by who. But they said "if you plan to own the car for awhile, do it every 5k. If not, then do it at 10."

All that 10k stuff is marketing BS. Stick to what you've conventionally known interval cycles to be.

Appreciate the help boys. 5k miles = 8k km so it looks like I'm right on the dot.

    Thanks!

I change when the car tells me to. But with the 3.2 you have to add 1L from time to time :D

Interesting, any sources on that? I thought the 2.0T was the one that eats oil.

I've always changed it before the car has warned me

No more source then that my engine drinks that much and when i asked Audi about it, they said it was "normal".
Dident bother to dig deeper into this because i get my oil for free at work...

The faulty 2.0 drinks way more then mine does.

I believe oil changing interval depends on the way the car is driven. I usually change mine on both my cars no longer than 5k miles. That being said, if I took my car on a weekend running hard, I would change around 3k miles, even as low as 2k miles. I also believe that people who live in big cities that require a lot of stop and go with RPMs reaching 3-4k or more quite often should have more frequent oil changes. This compared to someone who lives in suburbs or rural areas who usually travel for miles at cruising speed. I don't believe in a universal time or mileage for oil change frequency but I wouldn't go longer than 5k miles and definitely not the manufacture recommended 10k miles.

Good to know. I just checked my dip stick and the range of oil seems to be normal, but I guess that's something ill check every couple months from now on since it's so easy. MMI oil level is at max as well (but i've never seen that change)

Good to know. All of my driving is short 2-5km city driving so maybe I should change it at 5k km. I do however drive about 300km every two weeks (in a single day). I also let the car warm up every time from cold start for 30s-1m. I don't know if that's enough to get all the oil moving around.

Havent really found much abut it when i googled it. But then again, the 3.2 engine is not that common...
    Could be just mine :)

The real way to find out is to do an oil analysis at whatever interval you're at now. Send a sample of oil in to Blackstone (or one of the other oil analysis companies) to see if it is truly "worn out" or if it still has life in it. It really isn't the oil itself that is worn out (or used up), but the additives. Also, an oil analysis can often spot issues with an engine before you would have any symptoms (e.g. HPFP cam follower being chewed up before you would notice anything in the B7 engines). Cheers!
