How difficult is it to remove the rear spoiler on the S3? Anyone who has done it can give tips would be great. Looking to remove mine and install a PURE carbon spoiler from ED. Thanks

Its pretty easy to take off the old one, use some fishing line between the trunk lid and spoiler to "cut" the existing foam tape. Clean the old adhesive, if its warm it is pretty each to just roll the adhesive off the trunk lid cleanly. Any bids left over clean with some adhesive remover (Like 3M 38987) or paint prep type product. Having a warm trunk lid will also help with adhesion of the new spoiler so not bad idea to park it outside in the sun to warm up a little but not burning hot. I did not use the tape supplied but did use 3M 06387 that is there highest bond strength VHB tape that is 0.045" thick. I also used 3M 4298 adhesion promoter only on the spoiler as VBH tape sometimes had hard time bonding to CF. Also prior to applying tape to the spoiler clean the surface well with adhesive remover or paint prep to remove any molding wax left over, you can also use 3000 grid sandpaper and clean after as well to help bonding.

Using fishing line to cut old tape:

    Old Spoiler taken off:

    Removing adhesive tape:

Where I applied the tape - red is on the horizontal flat surface, and blue is on the back edge (vertical). I left some tails of the red backing exposed (no tape below it) to use as pull tabs once I got the spoiler in place so I did not have to get it spot on right when I put it down. I could adjust and tape it down wish masking tape and remove the red tape liner without removing the spoiler from the car.

I then taped down the spoiler, especially as the ends, to help promote good adhesion to the trunk and left it in the sun. Did not remove the tape for several hours. I did mine in the winter so took longer for tape to reach high bond strength.

    Tape and Adhesion Promoter used:

Awesome write up! Thanks! Do you think a hair dryer will work to heat it up or should I use a heat gun?

I used a hair dryer in the middle of winter to help remove the glue. Don't need need to get it too hot just warm. Same with the trunk when ready to install new spoiler - just needs to be warm.

Would using the supplied adhesive tape be fine or do you highly recommend using the 3M 06387 (I'm unable to find it local).

I am sure the tape that came with the spoiler will be sufficient - I just wanted to be 100% sure that it will stay on and no come up at all so I wanted to use the strongest tape 3M made for automotive use trim. I have seen many other people install with the included tape and have no issues - it is all about prep and making sure the surfaces are clean and you press down and hold to get a good bond.

the hardest part is probably going to be lining it up and committing to the stick on without the ability to readjust.

Looks like the spoiler has some adhesive tape already attached to the spoiler. They also gave me a little roll in the box. Should I have more adhesive tape or is what is already on the spoiler sufficient?

Depends on how much but it should at least be the perimeter of the spoiler - especially the front most edge and some on the back of the lip.
