    TT 225 turbo bolt removal how-to

    My TIP ripped at the turbo inlet and sucked part of the TIP in and damaged the blades a little and the turbo started sounding like a siren. I have started pulling the turbo but can't seem to get this bugger out I have tried anything that's a 13mm to get at it, any tricks or what tool worked for you? It is the bolt that secures the turbo to the bracket.

    Sorry Im of no help regarding the removal but the picture you posted is not working.

    In my case the bracket was BENT. Be careful not to bend it. What a pain.

    I had to remove my angle/bevel drive to get a good handle on the bracket bolt and actually remove the bracket, unbend and re-attach.

    You shouldn't need to do that.

    Come with a long extension across the top of the bevel drive. You may need to remove the wheel, some plastics and some shields, or even the axle, as I did. The bracket should have a nut attached to the opposite side -- but in my case it was shaved off. (@#$@#!)

    Note: I was able to get the axle out without removing the parts that affect the steering whose names I can't remember. Bit of a PITA still.

    It's "possible" that even removing the engine mount on the passenger side would allow you to drop that side and get a better angle on the bolt. That's surprisingly easy to do. (Insert safety warnings about proper support here)

    Thanks harr2969, you're right I was able to get to it thru the passenger side wheel well but it's tight af. I pulled a muscle trying to break it loose so I soaked it with PB Blaster and will try again this weekend. I lost my new 13mm socket somewhere in there too

    If I can't get it out I think I am going to have to somehow cut the bracket, imo it doesn't need anymore support than being mounted to the exhaust manifold anyways

    I thought the same thing, however it was pointed out to me that as a turbo spinning at high RPM's, tight mounting is absolutely critical. Poor mounting will contribute to poor longevity.

    I would suggest you get the right tool to apply pressure. A long enough extension and breaker bar / air gun should let you get it. If it breaks, drill it out and replace it - but don't leave it empty and don't cut the bracket, IMHO, because that bracket is a PITA to replace.

    I finally got it out, I kept soaking it everyday for over a week with PB Blaster and used a looong extension and a Universal Impact Joint Socket Adapter which has way less swivel allowing me to put pressure on it. I had to go thru the passenger side wheelwell and I had it out in seconds. I put it back in but I loaded it with copper anti-seize just incase future removal is needed.

    Got it at Harbor Freight:
