Found a cool product for engine protection

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys, I haven't posted in a while due to back surgery and selling my S4.. but before I sold my B5 I tried this new product. Before you shoot me down and say this is snake oil, at least read my post to the end. I've been on this forum for a while, and I just want to recommend a good product that can benefit members, and especially members with older engines and high mileage.

The product is called RVS and it creates a ceramic layer in high friction areas to improve efficiency. With the 2.7t in particular, this is a good product. This patented product is TUV approved, has alot of testing data and is already in use in Europe. I treated my S4 and after the first application I noticed the engine was quieter. I also noticed slightly better mpg's. Nothing ground breaking but added 2-3 mpg after the treatment. Since selling the S4 I have purchased a 5.0 Coyote powered Mustang which I treated as well. I noticed the same benefits in the V8. If interested in more info, please follow the link below and watch the videos on the site which go in depth with the technicals.

    http://www.rvs-usa.com/

For the record, I did contact the forum about this product with respect to sponsorship/advertising issues and didn't hear back from them.

sound like a similar product to Liqui Moly's Ceratec. I run this with Leichtlauf 5-40 and have had great results.

Here is the link to the video where the car has been driven 520 miles without oil... its in Finnish and English.

By the way, the German company mentioned above sold this very product for a while and then tried to duplicate it - without success.

HI guys, I figured I'd chime in here and answer questions you may have to the best of my ability. For the record, I've been trying to email the site to become a vendor with no luck. So I'll just post information and answer questions. :) I'm Joel and I run the US operations of RVS Technology. As you guys probably figured from above, the company and products are from Finland and have been for sale for over 14 years with great results over the years. I have quite a bit of knowledge on Audi's and VW's too since I used to be the product manager of After Sales of VW/Audi/Seat of FInland so I have a soft spot for these vehicles (and BMWs).

The german company mentioned before used to be a distributor over 10 years ago when we were still in the 1st generation of products (now in Gen3, phasing into Gen4). Each generation has been made to improve the product, make it faster to run in, last longer etc. They tried to copy the first gen product and it barely works like our first gen product. That said, it does use some of the same ingredients. There is also an open legal case against them (also with RVS Master in Canada, same guy.).

I've been active now in the N54tech forums for BMWs and have a couple guys testing out the products with extensive before and after testing (compression, data logs etc.). and I will gladly share that data with you guys. I will also be open to have a member or two try the products from this forum. You can also pm me for a discount coupon to buy and try the product.

And for what it's worth, it's nice to see such a well mannered and highly technical forum for a change (lots of good info and knowledgeable members) :D

    - Joel

Yes, RVS Master. He even uses some of our logos in the testimonials. They have been dealt a cease and desist letter a few times. So far we haven't taken legal action because of the costs involved...

We own all patents, TUV and Fraunhover certification, trademarks etc.

S4James, I know from the past years that you are a bit of a scientist/tester. I hope you test this product for yourself for some additional empirical results/data. This really is a good product. I've read alot about cam wear in the 2.7t due to oil not reaching them properly. This product would help alleviate that issue as well.

You should let flyboy do it. I already use a competing product in my s4 so i could never establish a credible baseline

What's supposed to happen with the compression test? What else is being data logged? In other words, what are the expected results from using your product?

Not to mention, really depends on part availability. What was the ETA that was given on the website? Chances are they set and met expectations. ECS has to be one of the best out there for CS.

Obviously not on the same scale, my statement was more a compliment towards RVS, because my order was shipped within an hour or two of placing it.

Regardless; "in stock and ready to ship" shouldn't take multiple days to get out the door given ECS tuning is as big as y'all mentioned....

This isn't a new issue many people have had problems with delayed shipping. Wasn't attacking anyone just wanted to point out the nice change of pace. Cheers.

    Big = slower turnaround times

A couple days is to process an order is not uncommon. You must be used to a multibillion dollar setup like Amazon prime. I'd rather wait a couple days than to pay premiums on parts because of the need for more resources.

So, I expect your need to add this every oil change? For 6 qt capacity, it's $60...every oil change??? Ignoring the claimed benefits of the product, even if it does prolong oil life, it sounds like a very expensive additive.

It is not an oil additive, and is not needed to add with every oil change. Read the RVS pages, there is more info.

Have you found any other information about the product from a source other than the vendor?

It would be nice to have some less biased sources weigh in on the product.

i run a can of lubromoly mos2 with every oil change and noticed a difference (easier cold start, lower idle) with my already highquality syntehtic oil and been using it ever since. I feel its one of the few addatives thats been proven to help.

How does an oil additive lower engine idle speed?

That what I was thinking too. If something, the idle should raise.

I have seen a photo of some gearbox from a tractor work machine. It had a badly worn gears, which got a LOT better with RVS. Also the test where they currently are driving with the Peugeot 206 without oil is impressive.

They have made some test by TÜV, which should be found somewhere from http://www.tuev-sued.de/home_en
    Approved by TÜV
    TÜV SÜD Automotive
    Report Nr: 10-00053-UA-GBM-00

Also Yamaha R1 gained more power on the dyno:

    STOCKHOLMS MC VARUHUS AB
    DYNOJET TEST
    Power raise 8,7 hp (128,2 > 136,9)
    Torque raise 6,6 Nm (98,0 > 104,6)

I should have clarified. I had an oil change years ago in february in the middle of winter and the next day added a can of mos2. On the first start the car started easier, and settled into a warm idle much faster. Overall, the engine felt smoother.

Any Canadian distributors? Particularly in either Edmonton or Calgary Alberta?

I've been on the lookout for something that may help with the 4.2 Alusil block oil consumption issues and this may be a good avenue to check into.

As some of you my know, I've always been interested in testing interesting/novel additives, however it's difficult to get a rational discussion started on the matter as it's usually dominated by responses along the line of "deeerrp deerrp, snake oil, derp derp, then why don't other oil manufacturers all use it derrrp deerrrrrppp"

Glad to see people keeping an open mind and willing to put down a couple of bucks to do some testing .

Hi, to answer your question, you only perform 2 treatments on used engines, and after that our product is good for at least 60k miles or 2500 hours in machinery :)

Sorry guys for my lack of participation. Yes, skepticism is expected of products like ours, I sure was before I came on board. I tried it and did testing myself and here I am now. I do ship to Canada Zimbuthemonkey and I am also looking for a vendor there. Shoot me a message and I can help you out with a discount to cover some cost for the shipping to Canada.

The Peugeot in Finland has now done over 1800 miles/3000km without any engine oil! They even ran it at the track a few weeks back and also performed a teardown of the engine. They found no real wear. Videos of that will be upcoming. The rest of the current videos can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/RVS-Tech...=page_internal

Also a car we sponsor and uses our products, just won the Finnish drifting championship with the car running better than ever.
I also sponsored another car run by Juha Rintanen Motorsports and he drives in the Formula Drift Series here in the US. His transmission lost a whine that was coming from it and started shifting smoother. A new engine was just treated and run in with RVS, a 3.5 liter 2JZ stroker. He will be running it in the finale in Irwindale this month.

And thank you guys for the professionalism you've shown so far! And again, let me know if you have any questions and if anyone wants to do further testing, I am still open for more trials :)

After doing a bit more reading of the various tests and websites about the product I changed my mind and have decided not to use it. I couldn't build enough confidence to put it into a trouble-free engine.
